Biography

serpent myosotis
she/her | bisexual | coliseum team | healer

|| Background
Serpent was hatched on the high-floating balloons of the Cloudsong, in the Ephemeral Library, a place of scholars and learned folk. Her father was an aloof Nature mage, her mother more concerned with her finery than her own children, and thusly Serpent spent most of her childhood alone. A strict and stern soul from the very beginning, it was easy for her to grow apart from her two younger brothers and devote her life to study in the library halls of her hatching, quickly finding a passion for medicine and some noticeably strong healing magic.

It was this that consumed much of Serpent's young life, honing her talents as a mage and investigating more and more tinctures and poultices. It was also this that eventually led Serpent to someone very important to her: Loki, her husband for many years, a smooth-talking Imperial who managed to weasel his way into her heart with startling accuracy. Within a year of meeting, the two were wed, and expecting a nest not long after.

Motherhood did not come easily to Serpent, and when she asked her husband for help raising their children, she found him distinctly lacking. Loki was far from an attentive father, more focused on his own enterprises than his family— enterprises that failed more often than not. Desperate to feed her family, Serpent was asked by a mercenary to help his injured criminal boss, for a hefty fee. She barely hesitated before rolling up her sleeves and saving the injured dragon's life.

Thusly, Serpent became a medic for Sornieth's criminal underworld, hiding her actions from her husband and managing to support all of them, if only just barely. However, even a medic involved with crime can become a target, and Serpent was attacked by a rival gang while she was operating. The event killed her patient and left her with severe chemical burns; unable to hide, her secret dealings were revealed to her husband, who was disgusted with her behavior. Thankfully, their children had already left the nest, and Loki wasted no time in divorcing her and leaving Serpent alone.

Abandoned by her husband, Serpent leaned more and more into the criminal underworld she had gotten involved with, eventually leaving the Cloudsong entirely and setting up shop under the rule of the Queen of Thieves, Ghostling Dusk. It was there that Serpent managed to earn the Queen's trust, and when she made her desperate escape from a position that threatened to kill her, Serpent agreed to come along.

|| Current
It's easy for Serpent to come off as a cold and unfeeling sort, and she does lean into the image somewhat, especially because the attack left her throat damaged. She speaks rarely and is exacting and logical in most moments, but her strict demeanor hides a hidden heart; she actually cares deeply for her leader and teammate, and considers them both a true family.

Being in Rara Avis suits her, as long as most other dragons leave her be (which they are more than happy to do). The trade in the clan allows her to get many rare resources for her potions and poultices, and she's more than free to practice her healing magic whenever she needs to. She knows, however, that Ghostling wants to reclaim her title and throne, and thusly this place is far from permanent. After all, the once-Queen of Thieves has earned her loyalty, through thick and thin, and Serpent is determined to stay by her side.

|| Notes
◈ Serpent is in her early fifties.
◈ Glob is exactly what it seems like— a living blob of chemicals and herbs, accidentally created by Serpent while she was mixing things in her cauldron. None of her potions have resulted in the same effect, much to her relief, as one Glob is more than enough.
◈ After the chemicals burns sustained to her skin and throat, Serpent decided to learn sign language, which she uses when she's having a painful day and doesn't have the energy to speak.
◈ Despite not really having a motherly instinct, Serpent does actually care for the well-being of hatchlings, and did her best to take care of her own. Unfortunately, she wasn't a very good parent, even when she tried.
◈ Sometimes, Serpent makes safe-to-wear pigment blends, most of which are requested by Forthwind so he can paint his wings.
