Gabriel is not what he appears to be. Often, he walks around in the guise of a beautiful Skydancer, his bright colors often confusing others over the fact he truly belongs to Shadow. But he's not a Skydancer. He's something more. Something magic. He's not the only of his kind, he knows. He's met two others, after all - Michael and Lucifer.

Once, the trio traveled together, learning of one another and growing their powers in unison. However, after a treacherous act of destruction by the hands of Lucifer - a village of dragons wiped from the face of the earth - Michael and Gabriel forced him from their group. Soon, they, too, parted ways, wary of the guilt and sense of danger that followed them wherever they went.

For many, many years, Gabriel traveled Sornieth, living it up and doing a good job of forgetting his past.

Eventually, he came upon a small clan within the Sunbeam Ruins. The 'Ancient Guard' the dragons called themselves. Gabriel had chuckled at their nonsense, for nothing was as ancient as he, and they weren't exactly guarding anything, but he hung around their lands anyway. It was then that he met Sam, an unassuming Tundra with a jovial soul and an equally jovial mate.

Oh, the grief he gave Sam, constantly pestering him with tricks and taunts. All in good fun, of course! It only took months for Gabriel to whittle down Sam's defenses, to turn his snappish scoldings into huffs of fond annoyance. And Jess, Sam's mate? She was a peach! Gabriel got the feeling she knew of his little crush on her man, but she rolled her eyes good-naturedly at him for it. After all, they'd become friends, as well, and Gabriel would never have hurt Jess, nor Sam.

Then came Kali. The fiery goddess that stole his heart just as easily as Sam had. She wasn't quite what Gabriel was, but she was no normal dragon, either. He loved her. Occasionally, she loved him back. Her affections were as fickle as a flame, but no less passionate and burning. Their relationship was open, fond, and nothing but respectful.

So many Gabriel had come to love, and they would all suffer the consequences.

Lucifer had followed him. He hadn't sensed him in what felt like forever, content to forget he even existed, but one day... One day, he was there, a powerful beacon of Light energy at the edge of the Ancient Guard's lands. Near him, another signature pulsed. This one of fire. Michael.

Michael's presence calmed Gabriel, to an extent. He knew Michael's purpose was to watch Lucifer, make sure he did nothing foolish. But a forboding feeling urged Gabriel forward, step by step, to where Lucifer waited.

Lucifer smiled at him, greeted him as an old friend, but Gabriel could hear the contempt in his voice. He hadn't let go of their 'betrayal' against him. It just wasn't in his nature. So, Gabriel warned him, told him to stay away from him. Lucifer shrugged off his concern, told him he was overreacting. Gabriel left him at the outskirts of Ezekiel's lands; Lucifer didn't seem bothered by the dismissal.

Except, he plagued Sam. At first, Gabriel hadn't a clue as to why Sam was growing anxious and flighty. Even around Jess, he didn't act like himself. When Gabriel confronted him about it, Sam meekly described the shimmering, all-white Tundra that shadowed him, haunted his dreams, told him to do things he didn't want to do, things he would never do.

Gabriel kept his knowledge of Lucifer secret. That was he biggest mistake. Even so, he swore to Sam that nothing bad would befall him. That whatever creature was bothering him couldn't weave dreams as well as he could.

Gabriel blocked Lucifer from Sam's mind, and then he ranted to Kali.

Kali listened to him the same way she always did: Stoically and with a feigned air of disinterest. Unlike the other members of the Ancient Guard, Kali knew Gabriel was no dragon. Took one to know one. He felt safe telling her about the growing threat he might have to deal with himself. Michael, clearly, didn't seem to perturbed about Lucifer's actions.

'Do not be foolish,' Kali warned. 'He is Light; you are Shadow. By all reason, he will defeat you should you engage him in a fight.'

'Then I won't play fair,' Gabriel seethed in reply. 'He's obviously not!'

Kali rolled her eyes. 'At the very least, wait until he comes to you. You've spoiled his fun, for now. If he seeks vengeance, we'll take care of him. Together.'

'Aw!' Gabriel cooed, teasing. 'And here I thought you didn't love me.'

'You have your moments.'

Kali's support was a temporary balm. All too soon, it was ripped away from him, her prediction of Lucifer taking the fight to him brutally realized.

Gabriel felt when Michael, seemingly, vanished. As if he were a small candle being extinguished in the wind. The chill his 'disappearance' caused Gabriel was worse than any snowstorm. He shook Kali awake, sun just barely over the horizon. She wasn't pleased at having been awoken, not after the night they'd had, but she followed him out of the Ancient Guard's cave and into the dewy air.

He didn't know what he was searching for - an absent Michael or a corpse - but when he found it, hours later, he panicked.

Michael lay on the ground, chained and bound by a magic Gabriel had never encountered before. It only took one, weak look from Michael to tell Gabriel what he feared. His silent command forced Gabriel to turn on heels and rush for the lair he called home.

Slain friends and a battle was what he and Kali returned to. Gabriel called out to Lucifer, trying to distract his wrath, but the amused, sadistic smile he received shattered his hopes.

It took seven dragons, himself and Kali included, to force Lucifer to retreat, and even then, he only did so because he grew bored. Gabriel remembered his taunting laugh. They hadn't won.

That night was bittersweet, for Gabriel. Lucifer had let Sam live, and Gabriel's heart had soared when he'd spotted his favorite Tundra in the wake of Lucifer's destruction, yet he'd not been so kind to Jess. Her only transgression having been the one thing Sam cared about the most.

Sam broke. His cries and grief clawed at Gabriel, buried into his heart like a stake and twisted deep. Guilt followed Gabriel for months, while he tried to mend Sam's shattered faith in the world. It was the least he could do, all things considered.

Time has passed since the tragedy that befell the Ancient Guard. Now, the dragons of that clan are united in a new kingdom named Magen Rishon. Sam has healed, mostly, with the aid of his friends and the diligence he shows his job. Gabriel, finally feeling able to breathe, has loosened up.

He has no set role within the kingdom, though many perceive him as the royal jester. He's all the time making jokes and playing tricks within the Court, whenever he actually makes an appearance, and he's, for the most part, not seen as a threat. Most of the respect shown him comes from his involvement in expelling Lucifer. However, the King, Ezekiel, keeps a careful eye on Gabriel, wary of how much he knew regarding the attack. As with most things in his life, Gabriel shrugs off his scrutiny with laughter.

As a father, Gabriel has become less outrageous in his actions than he might have been before, though not by much. All of his children he loves and showers with affection. He certainly is seen as the 'fun parent' when placed beside Kali, the stern mother who hopes her lover's antics won't land their offspring in an early grave.
