Alethia hatched with no one watching. Her eyes blinked open to see nothing. Her ears flicked around, hearing nothing. She clawed at the ground her egg had found itself resting upon, upsetting the sand that hat settled around her. She never knew it was supposed to be different. Perhaps she was lucky. Shoal had claimed she was. Others thought the opposite. She has no opinion on the matter.

Alexand was almost as young as her when she emerged from the sea alongside Shoal, glimpsing sunlight for the first time.

Shoal was the one that found her. She actually had startled him as much as he had startled her. He brought her to the surface and to his family. He raised her, with Tinyel.
