windv2.png Valentine’s stall is always surrounded by eager-eyed dragonets, usually accompanied by parents or older siblings. The youngsters crowd up against the glass panes that separate them from the displays of treats Valentine sells, pointing out different sweets to one another in high-pitched, excited voices.

The very first year he came to Moonfair, they put his stall back a little way, nearly hidden behind Killian’s tent. On the first couple of days, he had had little traffic, but evidently the few dragons that had come by his stall had enjoyed the candy he sold, for by the last day there were hundreds of dragons rerouting to buy sweets from him.

It’s three years later, and he gets to be front and center, easy to find on the main thoroughfare. He’s the first place the hungry little dragonets come, even though their parents clearly want them to eat something more “wholesome”, something from Viant’s food cart next door. Then he’s where they come after lunch, or dinner, whatever meal it is–sometimes it’s both–to get their reward for eating what they were supposed to be eating.

“What’s your recipe?” several parents have asked him, while their dragonets bounce enthusiastically around their feet.

Valentine never tells.
