Biography
The world had advanced significantly in over a hundred years, as you could expect. Technological advancements making the life of the ordinary person easier in the year 2120. Marvels of technology could be found almost anywhere you looked, from flying cars to planters which create a micro-environments so that the plants always grow in optimal conditions. Humanity was on the rise, the advancements of technology more than able to combat the proposed "carrying capacity" of Earth. War and conflicts were not a thing of the past, however. Humans were still humans, after all. There is no getting away from something humans have excelled at for hundreds of years. But, there had been a time of peace for more than thirty years. A few uncomfortable elbow rubbings here and there but cooler heads had been able to prevail. But this was before the spread of an alarming and mysterious virus.
The virus started out seemingly innocent enough, a slight cough, a headache, and a recurring low-grade fever. Just something you would think was a little cold or maybe allergies. In the beginning, most people ignored it. Only when people began to get violently sick and dying did people start taking notice. The symptoms escalated dramatically, their bodies began to burn with a severe fever, the nerves in their bodies became hypersensitive in such a way that their bodies themselves felt as though they were burning, a reaction which caused the body's own defenses to attack the body, anomalies in the brain, and rarely anomalies in the bones, skin, eyes, and other parts of the victim's bodies. Most did not survive, as the virus spread very quickly and creating an effective vaccine. Time was something humanity did not have. By the time a vaccine was created, the population was decimated from what it used to be. Even with the vaccine, there was a limited amount that could be made. From a world that once held close to nine million people, the population of the Earth was now closer to eight hundred thousand.
However, not all who were infected reacted quite the same way as others. A very small percentage of people infected did not die when the true symptoms appeared. They were changed. Strange mutations began to be reported. Changes to the victim's body and strange abilities began to appear sporadically. It is unknown exactly why this was occurring or exactly what it was about the people who did survive the infection that caused them to mutate to such a degree and not die like the others.
But that is exactly what a group of scientists is determined to find out. A collection of remaining powers have pooled their scientists and resources to both capture those mutants and set of a research facility to study them. This is said to be necessary as such times provide openings for unsavory groups to try and take control for themselves. These mutants could potentially give both them, as well as potential enemies, an advantage. So, their usefulness and potential ways to combat them must be researched. The underground research facility is made to be nearly inescapable, with many defensive measures. The mutants have already been transported to the facility and in their individual cells.
