Wei - a mage, not a magician

Wei is very insistent that you call her what she is - a mage, not a magician. Magicians are beings of court, who wow and impress with tricks and do little else: mages, she says, are where the real magic happens. She grew up in a small village and helped keep their crops watered by casting rain spells and filling water troughs for the animals but quickly considered this work beneath her. She had higher prospects. Soon after that she left, seeking out higher talent.

She was mentored at the Mages' College and quickly became proficient in the casting of spells - water and electricity, synergistic with one another, became her specialty. That is one of the reasons she settled in Harel's Landing - the surplus of water. The second was that they were sorely missing a healer, and in growing up where she did, she learned the basics - setting bones, delivering children, amputations, and so forth. Besides, The Howl has plenty of unexplored ruins full to brimming with old magics. That is the third reason she is here - the surplus of mercenaries willing to go ruin-diving for her, for tomes that she and Al pore over. She calls him an artificer and gets mad when he tries to play down his talents. She is the one who nursed Morwen back to health and so the two are polite, if terse.

Aside from mercenary expeditions to the ruins, she commissions dresses from Ira. Occasionally, a package arrives for her and inside there will be perfumes, silks, lace and cocoa: the origins of these parcels are unknown, although she writes often, and taught Al to write in cursive. Occasionally, she commissions a tool for Al or pays for spices for Morwen.

It was her who claimed the old ramshackle - a building that didn't stand so much as leaned - for her latest project - a library, so that all who come to the area have a ready source of knowledge. Inside, she is in the process of creating a bestiary, a local history, a map of the area, a chart of the runes, stars and constellations and collecting as many stories as she can. Al helps her with this, and occasionally Roth deigns to visit and share some of his wisdom.

Wei is beautiful - and she knows it. She is tall, curvaceous and all the better clad in bright crimson gowns, adorned with clasps and fine lace. Long, deep brown hair that falls in waves to the small of her back. She has rosy skin and a wide smile, and blue eyes as deep and stormy as the sea. She doesn't wear much jewelry or makeup - what point is there in pointless embellishment? Never far from her shoulder is Willow - a wisp Ramsey found in a marsh some ways away and took straight to her, "knowing little of magic as I do, ma'am". She decided to take the little spirit in and the two of them whisper to one another a lot, and it is infuriating because nobody can understand Willow except for her.
