• All Hail the Queen of the Deep • Between the territories of Water and Wind, there was born a Bogsneak of great wealth and royal blood. Her parents, awed at her beauty, swore to keep her locked away, never to be seen or touched by the impure of heart. High in a tower, the princess was kept. The winds blew around her, and at the tower's base, the ocean rose and fell. It was the perfect prison for their precious daughter to stay, stay for the rest of her life. However, it wasn't long before the tower was discovered. The princess, still very young at the time, heard a knock, knock, knocking at her chamber door. She rose to open it, expecting to see her beloved parents or perhaps a kind guard, come to bring her small gifts of adoration. Instead, she found a terrible creature, dark and frightening and of changing shape. She tried to close the door, but the thing was too strong. It pushed through and knocked the young Bogsneak to the ground. The thing morphed and changed until the princess was looking upon a large, shimmering Imperial, dressed in feathers the color of blood and the skulls of many creatures. A raggedy cloak was slung across one shoulder and pinned at the base of his neck. He lifted an armored claw and grinned down at the Bogsneak. Down the claw came. It wrapped around the princess's tail and she was dragged out of the tower. The princess screamed. She gripped the ground, the walls, anything as hard as she could. But her claws were ripped from each and every surface she clung to. As the creature dragged her away, she could hear the screams and thuds as guards were sent flying into walls. She tried to close her eyes as the creature took hold of one dragon's head in his jaw. She tried not to hear the sickening crack as he bit down. Out of the tower, into the waves, the creature dragged the princess through the sand. She felt the water lapping up around her. Her claws did not find a hold in the wet sand. She cried out as she was dragged further and further into the water, her cries turning into chokes and gasps as the waves crashed over her head. Beneath the waves, she could hear only what she thought to be the creature's voice. It sent shivers up her spine. She tried to scream, but the water caught her cries. He was speaking to her. He was speaking to her. "Welcome home, my Queen." |
