Deep in a shadowy forest, lies a small clan of Nocturnes. Their clan is led by Agnar and her mate, Fallon.

During mating season, all eggs are mixed and put in nests of four, leaving the actual lineage unknown. Each nest is assigned to a single pair of dragons who must protect their nest from any dangers that may come upon them. The nests are usually assigned to older dragons of at least two years of age this way, the eggs were almost guaranteed survival. But one season, something changed.

A nest of eggs had been deemed 'unresponsive' after several months of no activity. This had never happened before! Sure, there was always at least one egg that had been carried off by a predator or cracked on a rock when accidentally sent tumbling down a hill but never had an egg been unresponsive.

The caretaker of the nest, Tria, was distraught. She had just lost her mate to a battle and now she was going to lose her nest. How could this happen when they had been so careful? Agnar ordered for the nest to be sent down the river neighboring the clan but Tria, who was usually a soft spoken dragon refused to give up. She struck any dragon that dared come close to her eggs with sharp claws and teeth. Unforgiving and unmerciful, Agnar banished Tria from the clan with a promise of death if the dragon ever came back. Tria started her search of a new clan with nothing but her eggs.

She searched long and hard but two weeks passed and she had not found a clan that would accept her.
