In theory, Stretto’s political power is limited—in theory. In practice, being one of the three most dangerous individuals in the Court of Candles has its share of advantages. An immensely skilled alchemist, Stretto is often ordered to turn her talents against the Queen’s enemies; sometimes, she even obeys. Her true loyalties, however, are to Gwythyr, Capricious’s hated consort—and it is in no small part her ruthless, clear-sighted lethality that keeps his faction competitive against the whims of the Queen in Candles.
