Prestige, elegance, to be the perfect lady was her only goal. She studied poise and politeness in such a pleasant way that everyone around her had to agree that she was truly the gem of her family.

She smiled so gently when it was pointed out. Blushing just the right way and waving it off with an air of modesty.

They all ate it up so easily. She really thought if she just acted this way then maybe just maybe they would allow her some courteously and marry her to someone at the same level as her. Or even higher, so she could live a lavish life as a lady.

Marry into a life where she would never even have to lift a finger. I was all she wanted in the end, a content peaceful life where her hands would remain un-calloused by labor.

So, when she was too be married to a Duke she really was overjoyed. A rich husband was absolutely ideal. Avona really thought that all her efforts into becoming the perfect lady had come to fruition.

She did have to admit she was vaguely ****** when she met her fiancé and found him to be at least twice her age.

But it was fine until he told her he wished her to work. Her blood boiled at the idea. She never allowed it to show though. Smiling at him sweetly and telling him how she would love to help this empire and work for its betterment.

She needed a plan. At first, she really hadn’t wanted to involve Darius. He was just a servant, a boy closer to her age. He was sweet and utterly charming and she found herself honestly becoming smitten with him. Even if it never showed on her face.

Avona hadn’t wanted to corrupt him. She hadn’t wanted him to get his hands dirty, to have to hide who he was like she always did.

But as they became closer she found that maybe he was already corrupt. The vaguest mention of how she didn’t really want to work and suddenly he seemed livid at the very idea. It sparked some type of fire in his eyes, and Avona wondered if she even had to lift a finger to rid herself of her husband.

Then the Duke got sick and Avona saw the satisfied look on Darius’s face.

She fell head over heels in love with him at that point.

He understood her. Darius was perfect in every way. So, in the Duke disillusioned state she made sure that it was Darius that would take over his position and wealth. She voluntarily did work just to make sure it all went smoothly.

And it did. They were married suspiciously quickly after that, and Darius seemed even more fired up about making sure she didn’t have to do a thing.

She was over joyed.
