Biography
April fools/Easter baby
Subspecies: Dunkere
Dunekeres are feral beasts that roam deserts-like terrain, such as the Shattered Plain, Abiding Boneyard, and Highland Scrub. They are a benign plague type in that they don't actively carry or spread disease, but they are ultimate survivors, relying on brute force and numbers. Inherent camouflage makes a Dunekere difficult to spot. Instinct makes them pack-oriented and highly territorial, often claiming specific areas to hunt within, which is seldom travelled beyond as they feel vulnerable outside of their dry habitat. All Dunekere are born with an obsidian-coloured hide which protects them in the hours of the night, but as they grow their colouring will gradually lighten into pale, sandy hues that help them blend in during daylight. Rumour has it that long ago a group of wildclaws were exiled to the plaguelands for crimes of gluttony and aggression, and as they bred they began to adapt to their new environment until generations later they have evolved into what we know as Dunekeres today.
Dunekeres are nocturnal pack hunters, as their obsidian colouring masks their presence. Only their eyes, glowing red, becoming a focal point to their prey, which are revealed right before an attack. Dunekere are highly coordinated. They apply stealth to stalk, flanking the target, encircling it from a distance before creeping in with noses down. When the pack is close enough for a mobbing they will directly concentrate on the target, fixating their gaze upon it like a dozen fine points of crimson light, which is the last thing the victim will ever see. Then the nightmarish chittering noises they make when they feed... if these sounds are carried upon the winds of night, one would do well to stay away.
Most Dunekeres do not survive to adulthood because they are too feral and voracious to think things through before attempting to take a target. Intense instinct often overrides rational ability. The ones who do survive are those with more cleverness and patience than the rest, both of which are difficult for a Dunekere to retain in youth
Obsidian Dunekeres are the youngest of their kind.
Is a part of the Fechin Pack that hunts with Ullr, Corazon, and Hannibal at night.
