Arcturus Necromancer Mate of None Perhaps at one point in the spiral’s life, Arcturus had been happy. Had a loving family that he cared about, and that cared for him. Most of the dragons that make up the clan in which the dragon now finds himself calling home speculate, but are kind enough not to press any burning questions in need of answers onto the spiral. Whether it’s because of the eerie, haunting aura that seems to follow Arcturus about like an unseen cloud of decay or just to be polite, no one really could answer. The truth is, the spiral’s life had been far from picturesque. As a hatchling, Arcturus had been one of three siblings. Denebola and Spica had meant everything to Arcturus, and he them. The three were inseparable since birth, hatching at the same time from the same nest. It was simple, and life was good for the three spirals. They spent their time together, playing and flying through the air around their clan as most young hatchlings are wont to do, stretching their wings and getting used to the sensation of flight. Arcturus was happy, but this was the first - and last time - that he would feel this way. It seemed that the young spiral was only meant for sadness, and this was just the beginning. Denebola and Spica succumbed to a disease that was cruel enough not to take Arcturus with them, robbing him of his siblings in one fell swoop. Their loss struck the spiral with the sudden grief over such a loss in his life, his world coming to a screeching halt with their deaths. Arcturus didn’t know what to do, lost in his pain and confused by everything. He reasoned the only way to end his pain was to find a way to bring back his siblings, and so he sought out the information he needed. Thus began his dabble within the world of necromancy, as Arcturus read and learned and gathered the materials necessary to perform the ritual. Unfortunately, Arcturus was not prepared. His youth made him impulsive, and rushed. Magic is a fickle thing, and it requires all steps taken. Steps that Arcturus had not prepared, and yet he pressed on. With the ritual underway, he began his attempt to resurrect his siblings. The outcome was yet another event in his life that brought more heartache than relief. |

To some, the idea of having one’s loved ones near even after they have passed is comforting. But at what cost? Arcturus found himself in this dilemma, as his ritual not being carried out with all steps taken had left his siblings’ ghosts bound to him rather than brought back to the physical plane. Ghastly, spectral remains of what were once his kind and loving brother and sister clung to him, unable to pass on and find peace. It was his folly for not being more thorough, for not preparing all the steps as they should have been. He felt terrible for what he was now subjecting their souls to. But the spiral knew he had to right this wrong, and so he set forth with a goal in mind. Arcturus has spent most of his life traveling the land, gaining the knowledge he deems necessary to potentially finding a way to put his siblings’ ghosts to a final rest. He’s grown in his abilities and powers as a necromancer, sometimes offering help with talking to a loved one who has passed on by retreating into his coverings and focusing on the spirit world. It seems the attempt to bring back his brother and sister opened him up to being more sensitive to these things, and while Arcturus’ main goal is to find a way to put them to rest, he still offers his services to others. He knows what it’s like to lose someone and have questions, have pain that needs suffering. He’s grown from that young, brash spiral he once was, however. No longer does he make decisions without making sure all steps were followed, all materials gathered. If he thinks that he isn’t prepared for something he won’t do it, wanting to make sure he does not cause the same kind of pain that he suffers to fall upon another. Through his traveling, Arcturus has found himself in the safety of a nomadic clan hailing from the Shadow flight. As a traveler himself, Arcturus settled into the clan with relative ease, though he tends to avoid the nesting grounds and hatchlings as much as possible. Like most dragons that Arcturus comes across, most of the clan tend to avoid him as the presence of his siblings gives off an aura that is unsettling to others. Artcurus doesn’t mind much, though when he is not receding into his wrappings and his covers to focus on the spirit world and to mutter back and forth to one of his siblings’ ghosts, he is quite pleasant and enjoys conversing. Despite finding himself comfortably welcomed to the clan and providing his own services, Arcturus has not forgotten his quest to free Denebola and Spica of their spiritual bindings and send them to rest. As the clan travels, so does Artcturus’ search for more information. He hunts down books, rumors and dragons also skilled in the area of necromancy to garner as much knowledge as he can whenever the clan comes across another. Written by: Awaas #36344
