Kah was a fish. A koi fish to be specific. He lived a fairly normal life, swimming around and socializing with the others in his pond. He met his soulmate. Her name was Kimochi, and she was beautiful. Her scales were splashed with orange and black and white, unlike his own black ones. She was radiant and beautiful, and as odd as this might sound he was the yin to her yang. They spent all their time together, and they were happy, but Kimochi always wondered about the surface. She would tell him that there was something pulling her there, that she wanted to explore. Kah did not share her feelings about the land above, he found dragons strange and confusing, how they walked and flew and dropped strange flakes into the pond water, and even tried drinking from it. But somehow, Kimochi already made up her mind, and one day she emerged from the water, leaving Kah behind. She emerged not a fish, but she emerged a dragon. When Kimochi left the pond Kah felt heartbroken. He felt betrayed, abandoned, and lonely. However, he rarely showed it, remaining as calm as possible when around others to convince them he was okay. Even when he was alone. He tried to convince himself that he was fine. Kimochi rarely returned to the water, but his soulmate would return at nightfall, and every time she came, he would go to her. He still loved her, and the koi fish could tell from her eyes and the way she looked at him that Kimochi loved him too. Still, Kah would not emerge from the pond. Their lives seemed to split apart, as he realized that she was leaving her life as a koi fish behind, and things will never return to the way they were before. ________________________________________ |

Kah still hopes. He hopes one day Kimochi will come back to the pond, and he hopes one day they won’t drift apart anymore. But deep in his heart he knows she will not return to the water. They look at each other time and time again, sadness in their eyes, but still whenever she comes, Kah goes to her.
One day it changed. When she came to the pond that night, Kah was filled with a sudden urge to emerge from the water as he heard his mate’s soft cries for him. The pond seemed to be plunged into darkness. When it faded, Kah emerged from the water a dragon, almost exactly like Kimochi. His soulmate was shocked. Kimochi had been trying to coax Kah out of the pond for ages, and he finally had emerged. Although at first she was stunned, she decided to take him places and show him the world above the water. However, Kah did not stay on the land, the shadow koi returned to the pond. This did not stop them from switching forms between dragons and koi so they could meet each other here and there. Nothing would stop that, because despite their differences they were in love, and their love was true. They wouldn’t give it up because of those differences. Together, they could still be happy.
By the time they did arrive the marketplace was setting up, even though the sun had not risen yet. Dragons were flooding in to get their carts ready and set up their stands, and Kah glanced around nervously. What was he supposed to do? How did dragons act? Kimochi grabbed his arm and dragged him towards a large shop near her, and pulled him inside before Kah had a moment to register anything that was happening around him.
Kimochi riffled through the stacks of cloth items, and pulled out some purple items, draping them on Kah’s wings and legs adding a little earring and thick scarf and necklace, and she then leaned away smiling. Kah shifted awakrdly, feeling weighed down, although the whole outfit wasn’t as heavy as he would have originally expected, but having something weighing him down felt odd. Kimochi noticed his uncomfort and smiled softly. “Don’t worry, my love. You get use to it,” she said kindly, and shifted the clothes on him, and then removed the bundle of stuff and carried it over to the counter and started picking out coins to pay for the apparel. The shop owner seemed to consider something for a second as he glanced down at Kimochi’s money. “This isn’t enough, I need ten thousand more,” he said, tail twitching in annoyance, although his face betrayed a multitude of emotions. Kah fixed the shop owner with a glare, and then stepped forwards slowly. “Excuse me,” he said slowly, trying to calm himself before he attacked the owner. He wished that he could drown the owner in the mountain pond he lived in, but of course now he had to be a dragon. Apparently though, it worked, and the shop owner paled. He took a small step back from Kah and Kimochi, and then shoved the apparel at them, taking the coins Kimochi had given him and then shoved them out of the store. Kah stumbled back into the market as the sun started to peek out from behind the stands above the trees and the sky begun to light up. Kimochi stared at Kah, blinking. “You really handled that well back there,” she said, stunned. Kah blinked, surprised, “What did I do?” He asked awkwardly, and Kimochi stared at him like he was crazy. “You don’t know? You looked so imposing, like your shadow was alive and angry! It was really cool!” Kah just blinked, confused, and then he tripped over his talons as he tried to start walking, landing flat on his face on the ground. Kimochi giggled. “It seems you still can’t walk straight though.”

"Kimochi, slow down!” Kah cried, tripping over his talons multiple times. Kimochi turned around, her yellow eyes blinking curiously as she watched him stumble over awkwardly. She giggled for a moment, before Kah fixed her with a somewhat sour but playful frown. “How do these dragons walk around all the time?” He sighed, shaking out his legs and stretching his wings. “If walking is this hard I don’t understand how they even fly around.” Kimochi grinned, flicking her feather tipped tail at the sky. “We could try flying. It’s hard when you start but the more you do it the easier it gets,” she replied, and Kah shifted. “I’d rather just walk,” he said simply, and then slowly started walking forwards, wobbling slightly but well, he did it fairly well, and Kimochi trotted ahead of him. They should have arrived a lot earlier than they did.

Quote:
A powerful shadow koi. Kah is the yin to Kimochi's yang (as funny as that is to type). Kah is an oddly formal dragon that would rather stay in his pond as a fish than explore the land above. Kah doesn't get dragon culture, so he doesn't really share his mate's love for surface life. His calling as a koi fish is as true as his love's calling to be a dragon. This doesn't stop the two from switching forms to meet each other here and there. He remembers every kiss Kimochi leaves on his scales, and he hopes she knows his love for her when he swims in her shadow.
Anytime he travels to the surface, Kimochi squeals and jump hugs him, almost making them both fall back into the water. When he does shift form, the pond turns pitch black and he rises from the darkness. This is a complement to Kimochi rising from the bright light that forms when she leaves the pond!
If someone speaks ill to Kimochi, Kah will leave a threatening silhouette behind his mate until they change their mind. Kimochi ends up getting some cool deals in the market with him around!
Kah flutters his head feathers when he's happy. Kah is more likely to drown you in their pond if you try to drink from it, so don't sip from the koi pond in the mountains. Kimochi is the friendly one between the two of them. Kah finds those weird fish food flakes disgusting.
