xxxxxZieak had hatched into a cult with a leader who sheltered its members. Drakes could come in, but never come out. Every member blindly followed her, who claimed to be the firstborn of the Stormcatcher (truth was, she was just a very old dragon). Zieak was the child of one cult member and had also blindly followed her until pirates stormed the clan. Every hatchling was abducted into becoming a pirate. Many hatchlings slipped away into the darkness and were never seen or heard from again.

xxxxxThe pirates had quickly realized that the hatchlings they nabbed knew nothing about the outside world. Even their sense of morality was skewed to further benefit their former clan leader. Thus, the pirates taught the remaining hatchlings the basics of the outside world. Unfortunately, they had also taught them that following the basic laws of "no stealing, no murder, etc." were meant to be broken. The hatchlings, Zieak included, were quivering in their seats. They could break rules? They didn't have to listen to authority? Many more hatchlings would disappear without a trace after becoming unwilling to break rules. Zieak became one of the last hatchlings remaining.

xxxxxYears of training later and Zieak would become an official pirate. Every priceless gem he stole or gold ingot he nabbed would give him quite a rush. For a very large Imperial, he was more slippery than any fish on Sornieth. The memories of his questionable home clan were but a thing of the past. He could do whatever he wanted and get away with it, as long as he had his fellow shipmates beside him, and that cult leader couldn't do anything about it. He was free, free at last.

xxxxxOne dark and stormy night along the south coast of the Shifting Expanse, the worst storm Zieak had ever dealt with took down the pirates' prized ship. Zieak tried to rescue the only dragons he called his friends from the sinking ship, but the ice cold seawater restricted his movement as the ship was dragged further down than Zieak could swim. With nothing he could do, he slowly took off from the ice cold water and towards the coast of the Expanse.

xxxxxHe was cold, exhausted, broke, and friendless. All of this combined with being a known pirate across Sornieth would leave him miserable for months. When he walked around the marketplace, merchants would shield their wares with their delicately patterned wings, mothers would hide their hatchlings under their wings to keep an eye on the dangerous Imperial, and guards would surround him, ready to take him down the second he made a move. Though he could steal, he didn't have the motivation to. He fished with an old net he found lying around since he couldn't afford food himself. He wanted to be a pirate again, but without stealing anything. He just wanted friends. This lead him to the Pagfenx, with nowhere else to go.
