Biography

"The Terrifying Triplets"
Veni

Spotless Ghost

Any competent scout would tell you that there is no strategy that was off-limits. Deception and stealth were their sword and shield, trickery and misdirection were simple tools of the trade. To gain the information to save lives, to attain victory, a scout must be prepared to do every dirty trick and despicable plan in the book. One gets their claws dirty to keep the others clean.

Veni, however, would disagree. What good was it to do a job, if you couldn't do it with style?

Where a practically-minded scout would smear themselves with mud and dust, Veni would dance. Through the foilage and shadow she wove a path, even the leaves on the ground were undisturbed by her movement. Only the glint of orange light in the bushes indicated her presence.

Crouched between the trees, she closed her eyes. The wind partakes in juicy gossip, if one pauses to listen. Leaves rustled in the winds, and birds chirped, occupied in idyllic passage of life. It would've been a nice place to relax, if she wasn't on duty. Suddenly, Veni's eyes snapped open. It was slight, but there was a dip, a pause in the birdsong. Someone was there.

She snuck forward in the direction of the silence. Her lean legs were tensed, ready to move if neccessary. The trail, once spotted, was easily followed. Evidently, their guests were unfamiliar with the wooded paths. Slinking through, she caught sight of the intruders: An invading legion of beastclan, camped out in a nearby clearing.

A sly grin crossed Veni's face as she observed their movements. She might have considered her advantage almost unfair, if there was such a thing on the battlefield. They were completely oblivious, absorbed in their bickering. Their numbers were large, but that made them all the more clumsy. Best of all, they had left their waterskins out in the open. Perhaps they thought themselves untouchable. She would correct that foolish assumption.

Veni's siblings might have settled for charging in right there and then, asserting the power of the clan with their might and ferocity. Such a solution would be inelegant. Instead she waited, hours spent completely still, breaths reduced to mere breezes in the wind. She watched with amusement, seeing their petty infighting and grandiose proclamations of greatness. When the moon finally rose in the sky, she acted to set the pieces in place.

A broken branch here, to raise their hackles. A smudge of mud on the battle standards, to play them against each other. And a sprinkling of yew berry in the food and drink, just enough that its sickening taste was light on the tongue. Veni played on that primal fear of the dark, guards searching and turning for the spectre among them. Unseen claws would pluck at their clothes, seemingly shredded by shadow. Insignias and badges would disappear without a trace. Those orange gleaming claws became the eyes of the beast that walks the wood. Even the best of armies could not kill the unseen.

When dawn broke, Veni stole away, concluding her warfare of the mind. Already the camp was in uproar, rumor and fear leaving the invaders in disarray. She would have stayed to watch the chaos unfold, for it was her favourite part, but there were more pressing matters. Vidi and Vici would perhaps poke some fun, saying that she didn't do anything at all. She had no reason to dissuade that claim. After all, her scales and claws remained as beautifully immaculate as when she left. Only a few "souvenirs" she collected proved that her intel was sound.

Yet, her foes would whisper her name in fear. She was the faceless spirit, the rumor and boogeyman. She was the terror of the unexplained, the eyes that never sleep. She was the herald, of the storm to come.
