Gabriel

Gabriel is the charismatic host of Aefendel's foremost nightclub, The Lens, but he also is the family disappointment; a Lightning dragon should-be scientist reduced to something as banal as the entertainment industry? It's viewed as a disgrace he is not doing "real" work, that he must clearly be deficit in some way. It's something he admittedly has a bit of a complex about, almost as much as he does another circumstance of his birth. Gabriel is self-taught and spent much of his youth escaping away in the evenings to carefully study the performers of his homeland. Entertainment there was ostracized yet lapped up by most who after their week shifts would be packing the bars in a way just as clockwork as their work habits (if not more so). It always read as remarkably hypocritical, to condescend services one always crawled back to. There was also a certain allure to a job that was about making an audience happy for him. Perhaps it would not be unfair to say this was influenced to some degree by the everlasting lack of support from his family. At least, he reasoned, he could make others happy instead. And one day maybe he will not hear their nagging over the roar of applause. As far as techniques go, Gabriel speaks from his diaphragm based on his observations of others but retains a distinct singsong intonation to his voice that he has deepened with magic. He is a flamboyant force that makes up for his small size on the stage with his exuberant yet focused air. He emotes generously with his hands when he's sitting on his back feet and he exhibits great muscular control, able to flatten or stand portions of his mane on end to great effect. Gabriel is well-liked on and off the stage in Aefendel and has cultivated a bit of a reputation as a heartthrob. Unfortunately, he ends up coming across as a tease due to his avoidance of letting most get that close to him even if he wishes they could. |
