▸ His job is to magically carve and shape grottos, rooms and dens in the cliffs surrounding the enclave, where he can usually be found, if not surfing the wind with his board around the clan.

FUN FACTS AND STATS

▸ Measures : With is more than 7 meters length, Oraes is a very big and impressive Snapper, almost a giant among his kind. However, his wings are tiny compared to his body, just a bit over an average Snapper's size.

▸ Colour : [20/02/2019] XXY Swamp-Moss – there's only 8 other active dragons (out of 36 in total) with this colour combo, even for a XXY

▸ I was especially looking for Wind/Earth-looking Snapper male to be my Rockshifter – I saw him and immediately knew it was HIM.

▸ I just love his silly look with the turban and goggles. That's his flying gear.

REACHING FOR THE SKIES

Oraes magically carves rocks and cliffs : he help us build a great camp with dens for everybody by sculpting and carving the cliffs around the enclave into rooms, grottos and homes. He loves to fly but flies very badly at it, because of with his too tiny Snapper wings. As a Wind dragon, he had always feel like he was deeply bound to the skies and belonged to the flying people, and his naturally unability made him sad an angry. And decied to fight agaisnt that instead of just mourning. He is attuned with earth magic and is able to carve magically rocks – but he also practised a lot his wind inner magic, and that's how he designed his board - a surfing board, carved in stone, in order to fly by surfing the air directly. That's how Oraes the Rockshifter flies : he surfs his stone board, magically, in the air.

We met Oraes during our first Mistral Jamboree as a clan. We were juste beginning to celebrate the festival with the whole clan gathered in the enclave, when what seemed to be a meteor suddenly falled from the skies at high speed, like a rocket bomb, ans crashed on the ground. In the middle of the shattered earth and rocks, shaking with both fear and excitement, a very young Snapper was grasping a rough flat stone slab vaguely shaped like a board.
"I... Flew ? I flew ?!" he said with great enthusiasm, surrounded by surprised dragons of all kinds, interrupted in their jam degustation.

We welcomed him nonetheless, trying to learn why and how he ended here on that board, and to which clan to return him. From what we understood frm his explanations, his clan wasn't really encouraging him with magic experiments he did in order to fly by surfing the air on a rock board, which he proved to be able too even if he didn't manage to figure ho to take off, by lauching himself from a giant canon put up for the Mistral Jamboree festivities. We wanted to help him come back to his clan, but at that moment, Elyäh took interest into this magical experiment and began question him about his board. That's at this very instant Oraes understood he landed, by Windsinger's talon of fate, in a mage clan that able to help him do what he could never do at home. So he asked if he could stay among us, with almost despair in his tone, offering to work for free as long as we allowed him to stay. His longing for learning and working was strong, and his will was clear : we were happy to accept. Of course, we warned his previous clan and arranged with them the staying of their young member – who, apparently, was the source of some troubles : they seemed quite happy to have someone else to handle him.

In his former clan, and especially from his parents, Oraes always heard that he shouldn't try to do what he wasn't obviously made for. Don't try and you won't be disppointed. You should stay at your place. You shouldn't do what's to hard for you, you should know your limits and learn to work with them. You should do what you are good at naturally. But Oraes was as stubborn as motivated, and that's how he landed in our clan, which quickly became his beloved home. He also found his place almost the first day, as we witnessed his amazing Rockshifting skills : his magic, rather than tearing the rock appart, shattering it or carving it, looks like thestone is melting under his talons and becomes malleable. That's how he was able to help us smoothing our main hall and at that moment, Welgan and Sedewus, who were looking for a stone carver to help us expand further into the cliffs as the clan grew more numerous, immediately offered him to become our Rockshifter, a job he is still happy and proud to do.

RELATIONSHIPS:

▸ Mate: Ithys – they live together in a deeply loving exclusive relationship

▸ Familiy: He didn't keep any contact with his parents who are serving the Windsinger, but he and Ithys have a daughter, Apheliote, in the Fire clan Emberian – she got lost while exploring the caves and ended there, but she liked it a lot and now the clans have very friendly relationships.

▸ Friends: Appart from his Longneck troup friends, Oraes don't have a really close friend but his an appreciated fellow. He often flies with Emberyl, though, and likes to have long discussions with Hidust about the artistic part of architecture.

▸ Master/pupil: Oraes is a totally self-taught dragon and takes great pride in that. He doesn't have a student but he teaches some things to Ithys, as his assistant.

▸ Works with: Ithys as his assitant, Blazeshade and Hidust for architectural purposes, Suyiel when he needs fine metalworks, and the camp managers ( Thystae and Jarvyana) and clan leaders ( Sedewus and Welgan) in order to prepare his next den carvings.

Familiar :

Takemi. Basically his best buddy. They go fishing together, or he brings him on his surfboard to fly when something goes wrong.

Longneck friend

Oraes is the friend of a little group of longnecks, which he once found deeply lost in one of the grottos, fleeing the war between dragons and Beastclans, and he helped to reach the exit. The Longnecks decided to stay with their savior (and potentially friendly protector) and now earn their living among us by helping him managing the den carving. They're a bunch of lazy relaxed boys who basically only want to live quietly somewhere where they have food and a bed to rest. Which is basically what we provide them – but when help is needed, they always proved to be helpful friends.

_LOVE STORY_

____It was the sunny afternoon of a cheerful early summer day. The hatchlings wanted to compete in a flying race and were excitedly chirping around one of the latest clan members – the young Snapper girl, Ithys, just came from the Light'brary clan a few days ago to settle in her new clan, and was helping around in order to get to know better her fellows clan members and to find her place here. At that very moment, she was helping Vega the nurse and Catheire the teacher by taking care of the hatchlings for the afternoon while they were discussing the new teaching programs.
____
-Okay, you can race – but the older watch out for the youngest, please ! And no one goes outside of the enclave. From the tree to the cliff's edge, right ?

The chirping intensified as the hatchlings prepared to race.

-You're not coming ? Asked one of them.

-Oh - N-no, kids, I'll just watch from here, she answered with an hesitating tone, caught off guard. That's fine, go with the others, you'll miss the start !

____At that moment, Oraes appeared behind her as he was heading towards his next work site – he had been very busy the past days and barely had the occasion to introduced himself to the newcomer. He heard the answer and, after a brief second of reflexion, frowned and deviated from his original path to come next to her. He stayed silent for a few seconds as the young female lifted her gaze to look at the hatchlings taking flight with joyful laughs.

-Why did you refuse ? He asked her abruptedly with his gruff voice, without even looking at her.

-Well, I ... I just... – she stammered, surprised. I just didn't felt like flying nor racing today, that's all.

Her small wings folded softly, almost unnoticeable, around her as she turn her head back to the hatchlings playing with the winds, enjoying this communion with their element.

-Do you ever feel like it, at least ? Or do you just think you can't ? he went on with a harsh tone.

-I ... I ... You know, I ... we... she stuttered, ill at ease, unable to finish her sentence.

____Oraes let out an exasperated sigh and suddenly produced a long, loud whistling. Ithys took a quick look at him, confused, as nothing happened, before lifting her head again towards the hatchlings. And a few seconds later, with the hissing sound of an arrow, a huge flat stone-carved flying board appeared from behind the cherry trees, rushing towards them at high speed. Ithys only had the time to widen her eyes, speechless, before Oraes hit the ground with a talon, causing the rocks under her to lift quickly – a surprised scream later, she was grasping the stone board with all the strenghth she could summon, shouting at top of her lungs as the board flew likea lightning bolt in the wide open sky.
____Back on the ground, as the scream of horor slowly became joy exclamations, the Rockshifter's smile widened and his eyes glistened with passion. He made her fly, loop and race for long minutes, perfectly mastering the controlling of the magical board, in the enthusiastic screams of the hatchlings, and with a final rush landed his board next to him. He smiled to her and this intense, satisfied and passionate smile would engrave itself in her memory for years.

-Don't ever think you can't do something you really want to do, he said, and simply turned back, jumping on his board and heading towards his work place without any other word.

____He was suprised to see her presenting herself as his assistant in front of his den and workshop the very next day. That wasn't displeasing to him, however, as he had a lot of work and felt a little bit alone in his work smetimes. The liking he took on her the first day they met was only to confirmed itself as time went by, and he wasn't exactly sure of how he should react to his own feeling or ho he should act towards her.
____She didn't seem to respond to the shy signals he tried to send to her and he worried more and more about it while trying to hide his confusion form her by offering her the best and more cheerful work environnement ever, until the day they had that discussion about their birthdates. As a lot of people, she had thought he was decades older than her. He didn't understood immediately the implications of what she learned about it that day, but as she acted more and more explicitedly with him, he took time to admit that he wasn't imagining things and that she was inviting him to do the first step. That's when he began to design a double board to take her in a ride with him, as the planned to declare his love for her right in the skies. They day he thought the board was ready, eager to anxious, they took fly – but it wasn't nearly as efficient as his own board and they crashed on the cliffs over the sea. He had one of his greatest fears in her life until he was sure she wasn't hurt, and at that moment he noticed they were alone on the windswept cliffs with the sunset on the ocean as only horizon... and forgot a bit about the mess the board had been – he had something way more important to say.
____They took their time to come back. The day after that, they discreetly warned a few clan members of their now mating raltionship (among which was the camp manager Thystae, that is to say absolutely everyone in the clan and the neighboorhoods learned the new in the next hours) and began to live with each other. We performed a bonding ceremony a few moths later and they now live happily together.
