Set:
Skydancer - F - D - Wasp - Smoke/Gloom - Trail - Pumpkin/Magenta/Fuschia/Mulberry/ - Circuit - Cyan - Arcane/Lightning
Arcane Common is closest to the canon color of later Phases. For Phase 1, Lightning Common is best. For middle phases, Shadow Unusual is best. Faceted works on breeds with small eyes, but otherwise doesn't. Primal Arcane can pass but other rare eye types won't. (Since I have Fire nests, Common Fire is the least noticeable (especially when paired with Pumpkin!) even though it's not canon).
All of the examples have Arcane Common with the exception of the Spirals, which can showcase Arcane Rare.
WHEN COMPARED TO OTHER POTENTIAL BREEDS:
Born as a Guardian, kept as a Guardian:
As energetic and fast as a Spiral?:
ASSESSMENT:
The combo closest to the canon colors are Smoke+Pumpkin for Final Phase and Smoke+Magenta for other Phases. In the Skydancer's case, Mulberry is a good alternative to Magenta because it's brighter on that breed. The Final Phase uses Arcane Rare eyes, but Common works for small-eyed breeds. First Phase uses Lightning Common and middle phases use Shadow Unusual. Fire Common can pass unnoticed on small-eyed breeds.
Final Phase: Smoke+Pumpkin with Arcane
Other Phases: Smoke+Magenta/Mulberry for Skydancer alternative with Shadow Unusual or Lightning Common
10/21/18 - I noticed that some of the aesthetic matches a Wildclaw as well, and I have yet to have any female Wildclaws (though the same goes for Skydancers).
Again, Mulberry is too dark, and Fuschia doesn't look as good as Magenta. While I like Wildclaw as an option, I don't like the stoic, proud pose as much, and the eyes' pupils aren't as pronounced as I'd like (although Fire Common looks better than Arcane Rare, in that case...). The size of the eyes also makes it obvious what color they are; only Dark Sclera kind of hides it, but she doesn't have dark sclera.
I'm thinking of not using Wildclaw for those reasons; plus I was tempted originally because of the Steelhound accent, but it has the wrong aesthetic anyway. I'll use it for another Wildclaw.

- In general: Gloom looks better because it's darker and emphasizes Circuit, but Smoke is closer to the canon color.
- Pumpkin Trail has the potential colors of Final Phase.
- Fuschia's stark magenta-on-black is the most aesthetically pleasing.
- Magenta has blue hue-shifting, which keeps the palette small and consistent but isn't as aesthetically-pleasing as Fuschia. The blue does give Circuits a bit of a glowing effect but also under-emphasizes it.
- Mulberry is a softer version of Magenta/Fuschia, which is good for Phase 1+ but not Final Phase, as the pink isn't "loud" enough.
- Fuschia seems to be the most "neutral" with the primary color; looks good with both Smoke and Gloom.
- The hot pink of Magenta fits best with the canon pink. Fuschia fits the least. Mulberry is almost too blue but also fits.
- Mulberry makes it feel more robotic while Magenta has a livelier, "crazy artist" vibe. The problem is, I need both... I feel like I need the hue-shifting of Magenta with the much darker border of Mulberry for that effect, but there isn't a color like that.
WHEN COMPARED TO OTHER POTENTIAL BREEDS:
Born as a Guardian, kept as a Guardian:
- Mulberry is now too dark.
- Magenta loses its definitive blue hue-shifting but is still closer to the canon pink than Fuschia.
- Gloom still looks cool but Smoke is closest to the canon color and is a bit easier on the eyes, so I'm leaning toward Smoke for a Guardian. The only exception is Smoke+Magenta; the similar values wash it out a bit and make it look too bland or just busy.
As energetic and fast as a Spiral?:
- Mulberry is still too dark.
- Gloom still looks great in most cases... I'm a bit annoyed about how I like it but it's not close enough to canon. Maybe I should just change the canon...
- I care for Fuschia less, which leaves Pumpkin and Magenta for a Spiral.
- Smoke looks better with Pumpkin than Gloom. I'm split on what looks better with Magenta.
