‘Had I but known, fair knight,’ said she, ‘before we left this night to
roam, I‘d have et thy heart of flesh and left thee with a heart of stone.’

The queen in her domain, and all the Court of Candles lives (or dies) at her whim—or so she’d prefer to claim. The reality of it is a bit more messy. Though she holds her throne through a combination of fear, obligation, and powerful enchantment, Capricious fights often with her consort, whom she hates. She keeps a stable of concubines, many of them “gifts” from allies and client kingdoms. Much of her day-to-day life is spent in petty idleness, and her moods are as unpredictable and dangerous as her name implies.
