They say great love takes sacrifice. Compromise. Faith. Breacadh knows all of this all too well. It had been simple in the beginning, when it was just him and Scaith traveling together in search of a place they could call home. Then they had found Doitean, then Neamhni, then Soilsiu. Together they made a clan of their own, and Scaith had become his loving mate. Slowly they began attracting other dragons, and eggs began to hatch. The clan’s growth began to explode. Breacadh did what he could, everyone did, but they always seemed to be struggling. Food was always tight, they kept having to expand the lair again and again. Breacadh could see the writing on the walls, and he knew what he had to do. After wishing Scaith and his one remaining child, Oiche, goodbye, Breacadh exalted himself to the Shadowbinder in the hopes that his clan would be able to thrive.

Breacadh was gone for many long years, although what he did while in service of the Shadowbinder remains a mystery. All that is known is that for some unknown reason, and to the great surprise of everyone in the clan (Scaith especially), Breacadh returned. After a huge celebration (and a slightly awkward period between Breacadh and Poru), dragons began noticing that Breacadh had…changed. He would spend hours on end furiously scribbling down notes that were incomprehensible to anyone who tried to read them, and if he wasn’t doing that, he would be spending hours on end speaking to the other Ceannaires in hushed tones and fearful glances. After several months, Breacadh seemed to calm down, and he began transcribing the history of the clan, taking on the role of Lore Keeper. But this also marked a shift within the clan.

The shift wasn’t really noticeable at first. Minor changes to where dragons were assigned. The gradual shift of focus from expansion to defense. But then dragons began to notice the emphasis on magic users and fighters, and the increasing amount of secret meetings the Ceannaires seemed to have. Few dragons remember those early days, but those that do still shake their heads in wonder at what caused the change.

Through it all, Breacadh continued to keep track of everything that happened within the clan. The stories that happened within their lives, and it wasn’t long until he took on assistants. Lore Keepers he called them, one for every element. It took him a while to have a dragon for every element, but eventually he succeeded. The true purpose of the Lore Keepers is unknown, but each of them records and maintains stories, both from ages long past and those from more recent history.

These days, Breacadh can be found deep within the clan’s library pursuing the many tomes he and the other Lore Keepers’ have either collected or written. If you manage to find him, and he spots you, he will ask “Would you like to hear a story young one?” I suggest you accept his offer, for perhaps a story from the past will help explain what’s to come in the future.

All are welcome at Breacadh's Library. Why don't you stop by? Learn the history of this great and proud clan. Ignore the whispers coming from outside the lair's borders.
