Liesel
Tailor and Stuffed Toy Maker
Tailor and Stuffed Toy Maker
|
Liesel has never been content to sit and wait. She prefers to keep busy and always has something she's working on, whether it's designing a new plush toy or creating a magnificent evening gown. And so, it's no surprise that her Mothers first found the young Snapper stubbornly making her way alone across the Snowsquall Tundra. Although she was barely more than a hatchling at the time, Liesel still remembers that day. She'd been at the back of her birth clan's caravan, lagging behind her parents. So behind, in fact, that no one seemed to notice when she lost her footing and fell down the back of a hill. By the time she'd climbed back up, her parents and her clan were nowhere to be found. In a way, Liesel believes that becoming lost was an act of fate. Only by losing the clan of her birth was she able to find where she truly belonged. Liesel's adopted Mothers, Kirin and Oranvca, were traveling with their own clan at that time. As they made their way across the Icewarden's domain, they often stopped to gather food and other materials. That time of year, it was possible to find plentiful red berry bushes under the top layer of snow. Kirin was helping Oranvca collect those early berries when a noise caught her attention. She turned and saw a young snapper standing behind them, alone, and quietly begging for food. Some dragons would resent having to care for a stranger's child. Kirin, however, saw Liesel's arrival as a blessing. Now she had the chance to raise a child with her partner. Oranvca wasn't sure if she wanted the responsibility at first. She spent so much of her time away from the clan, searching for food and material. Would her absence be fair the child? In the end, Kirin managed to persuade her to adopt Liesel. Someone had to, she said, so why not two caring mothers who'd never truly had a hatchling of their own? Liesel took to the clan like she'd never known another one. She followed Oranvca and learned about different flora and fauna, discovering which fibers could be softened and used for clothing and which were best for eating or kindling. Kirin taught Liesel how to use these fibers, processing them and weaving them into bolts of cloth. The young Snapper eagerly took to the craft. She spent rare moments of free time thinking of new ways to create clothing and apparel that looked appealing while still keeping its wearer warm. She soon bought a book on knitting and crochet from a traveling salesman and taught herself to make small plushes and toys for all the clan's younglings. She even makes a habit of gifting a hand-made toy to each new member of the clan. These days, Liesel spends much of her time coming up with ideas and patterns for unique pieces of clothing. She enjoys experimenting with different fabrics, trying to imbue them all sorts of powers and attributes. What if a pair of leather boots could keep their wearer completely dry from rain, warm in the snow, or protect against injury? Liesel hopes to create clothing like that someday. |
