Iris

Several miles to the northeast lies a vast boneyard of ancient machines, where Iris uncovers something new each visit. She has a hidden hovel in the enormous rusted skull of a long-dead creature where she rests in between flights and stores the materials that are too heavy to carry in one trip. This hiding spot makes the perfect midpoint. Iris will usually fly to the boneyard and scavenge there until the sun rises. She stores her loot and sleeps until noon, then taking flight south towards the Shifting Expanse, territory of lighting. By the time she reaches it, the cloak of night surrounds her. Dragons in the lightning flight love to experiment and create new machinery. Their failed projects have to go somewhere. Iris is familiar with their dumping locations, and so she is free to shift through the discarded machines for their valuable parts. She scavenges the wiring, internal cores, and soft metals. Usually, Iris returns to the boneyard before the sun rises again, where she is free to rest and prepare for the day’s flight home.

Her collection of scrap fuels a purpose: Queva’s jewelry smithing. Iris hates the word ‘apprentice’ and would never consider herself one (but she is.) The material she collects turns into beautiful bangles, pendants, and wing adornments. Iris does it to help Queva, sure, but she also does it for the adventure.
