-He lost feeling in his hands long ago, to an opalizing variant of the gembond disease. He has tried more than once to cut the stone out, but the opal covers his arms up to the elbow. He can block a sword with his forearm.
-He remembers his teacher as a mother figure. She too knows what it’s like to work without a sense.
-Krieg’s finest pupil… and her cruelest. If she had known what he would become, she would never have taken him in.
-They mock him because he speaks awkwardly. If they knew of the hours he spends painstakingly cutting opal chips from his mouth with a scalpel, perhaps they wouldn’t.
-He does not carry anesthetics. He doesn’t see any point.
-His surgical mask does little to hide the blood that leaks down his chin.
