Dark Secret - Is actually among the weakest and least intelligent examples of its species (and is painfully aware of it).
Traits - Very literal, unusual phrasing/speech patterns, third person plural, amusingly oblivious to basics of draconic life/physiology/culture/language, driven by survival logic, clearly alien mindset, somewhat detached.
Appearance - Its garments are in the style of the River Princes, the first clan of dragons that it infiltrated - never occurred to it to change said garments to fit in with other clans.
Sins – Greed, deception, crimes against nature (or at least the natural order).
Likes - Butterflies (will watch them for hours), wading in shallow water, the colour yellow, listening passively.
Dislikes - Open flames larger than a candle, hedge trimmers, prolonged thirst or hunger, herbivores.

The verdant forests and jungles of the Nature territories play host to innumerable species of plants and animals, as well as some creatures that cannot technically be classified as either. Buttercup is one such creature, a tentacled mass of sentient plant matter that takes the form of a Coatl in order to infiltrate and hunt its preferred prey - dragons.

Despite its use of such advanced tactics, however, the creature’s goal is quite simple – to reproduce nigh-endlessly until the entirety of Sornieth has been seeded and subsequently overgrown with its offspring.

As is typical for a member of its species, Buttercup lives off of a substance that it refers to as the Nectar of Life. It obtains this substance by poisoning dragons with beverages that have been specially brewed from the leaves of its true form. These beverages transmute the lifeblood of any dragon that consumes them into a sweet, syrupy liquid - the so-called Nectar of Life.

Victims of this poison subsequently feel no pain whatsoever as Buttercup drains them dry, their bodies wilting into a substance nearly indistinguishable from rotted plant matter. Unsurprisingly, these remains serve as the perfect fertilizer for the creature's spores.

In large quantities, the nectar affects Buttercup as an intoxicant, causing it to become blissfully relaxed and incredibly tactile. It was in one such drunken state, having gorged on the lifeblood of a fully grown Guardian, that the creature inadvertently revealed its true identity to the clan that it was infiltrating.

The Clan of Second Chances.

Though the clan was initially inclined to reduce Buttercup to mulch, their opinions were swayed - as usual - by Orion. The creature had originally posed as a brewer to infiltrate and poison the clan, and the Imperial had been smitten by the flavours of its less lethal concoctions. Particularly the manner in which they complimented Gateau's delectable sweets.

The sole condition of the creature's stay was that it would consume no other fully-fledged members of the Unrepentant Clan - an agreement which purposely omitted any and all protections for travelers or guests.

Now, Buttercup feeds upon those clueless, useless outsiders foolish enough to drink his poisoned liqueurs. Given the clan's status as a major trading hub for the most twisted dragons on the face of Sornieth, such outsiders are in ample supply.

Able to subsist more than comfortably in its new environment, the creature has put down roots, so to speak. As a member of the Clan of Second Chances, Buttercup willingly continues to brew a variety of beverages for their enjoyment. A surprising majority of the Unrepentant dragons drink them recreationally, as many of these beverages have bizarre and entertaining (though ultimately harmless) magical effects on the drinker.

Thus intoxicated, the clan has thrown caution to the wind – and Buttercup will ensure that they live only long enough to regret it. Even its supposedly harmless brews are imbued with subtle poisons, which will gradually transmute every last dragon that consumes them.

When these unwitting victims finally succumb, the creature will feast on their lifeblood. Overflowing with the Nectar of Life, Buttercup will undergo its final stage of growth, gaining the ability to multiply exponentially and reproduce through mitosis rather than mere spores. The larger the feast, the greater the creature’s potential for reproduction - and there are hundreds of Unrepentant dragons ripe for the picking.

It will only be a matter of time until entirety of Sornieth has been seeded and overgrown with its offspring.
