ACCEPTING OFFERINGS OF
written by RinnaBear
Sometimes Apollo forgets what it’s like to comfort someone.
Hephaestus is a good friend of Apollo’s. Had been since before he could remember. Apollo is his rock. To comfort him is a joy for Apollo. Something about making his day better helps the Guardian cope with his day.
Apollo slowly grew to like Hephaestus in another way. A more intimate way. Hephaestus did not have many friends, and so he depended on Apollo like no other. He spent the most time with him, and was always ready to call. The constant interaction had him falling for Hephaestus.
He often likes to bring up his past lovers, although he isn’t sure why. Maybe it’s to make him jealous, or to seek comfort in his understanding nods. Hephaestus never flinches, he just accepts what he is told and offers his remarks. Apollo had never met a more empathetic listener.
He had never acted upon his feelings until a late day in Hephaestus’ workshop. Apollo watched him move around, at the same pace as always. However, there was something he was lacking. Almost like his heart just wasn’t in it. When given the chance, Hephaestus rested himself on the couch and heaved a gust of air from his lungs.
When Hephaestus started to speak, telling Apollo of his argument with Aphrodite the past night, he sat and listened patiently. His friend was hurting, and he chose to comfort him. With a dash of courage, he reached out a clawed hand and rested it atop Hephaestus’ small paw. His friend looked shocked for but a moment, then his face narrowed into intense focus. He did not move away.
Apollo could feel his relief rush through him, and he cracked a small smile at the Skydancer. Hephaestus’ mouth twitched up at the corners.
