Biography
Scholar Amongst Heathens
History, Philosophy, & Culture
Leigh has always been a nervous guy. The day he hatched it took him little over an hour to come out of his egg. What if he was a runt? How was he suppose to handle everything when he is so small? Why was it dark out? Who was going to look after him? What if they were awful drakes? Far too many questions for one so young some said, his family however saw his inquisitiveness as a gift. Someone with so many questions on their mind must be blessed by the Lightwever and the ancestors. Leigh was seen as a golden child, all he saw was a world far to big for him to have any sort of peace.
Leigh was taught by some of the best scholars, he was sent to some of the best schools. Yet he never felt like he was holding up to every ones idea of him. Was he really any good with languages as he was told? How often was he really going to come into contact with a clan that needed an expert in cultures? Why would they settle for his flimsy understanding of a history that almost everyone knew? Leigh just didn't see how he could contribute to a clan in the future no matter what his teachers, family, friends, or classmates said.
When the time came to leave his part of the world Leigh was told to head for the Starfall Isles. Their he could learn even more, there he could continue on with the studies that had been thrust upon him. With his eyes down he packed his belongings into two bags and headed out, never has he felt his fear like he did in that moment. Leigh was in a constant state of terror about the countless stories he had read and heard about road bandits and beast clans that wouldn't hesitate to rip a lone drake apart. Every twig snap, every rustle of the bush made him jump and wish he were back home in his clans library reading by the fire. It was while he was thinking of all the awful ways one might befall misfortune on the road that he was pocked on the shoulder, Leigh gave a loud piercing shriek and promptly passed out.
Leigh awoke to a most wonderous smell, and bickering. Two voices going back and forth about how it was polite to call out in advance before initiating contact for peat sack you sent the poor guy into a fit. Leigh felt embarrassment and a sudden want for the earth to swallow him where he lay. When he finally mustered up the courage to open his eyes, he was met with a set of red eyes belonging to a pair of twins. The two wildclaws were identical to each other minus a few scars that separated them. Yani and Lani were the names they gave him, they were on their way to the Shifting Expanse to pick an order up for their father. The two had a certain charm to them, Yani was exited to get out of the clan, while Lani was more reserved about the whole affair. The three drakes spent a few more days together traveling along the boarder of the sea and the desert until the twins had to split off to make their rendezvous. Leigh felt marginally better after the interaction hoping any others he met would be just as pleasant.
Studying Heathens
In Leigh's defence, he didn't know he was following them. I was honestly just a case of heading in the same direction. Well the snappy purple mirror did not see it that way. This is how Leigh found himself face down in the dirt with a severely temperamental mirror atop him. He was screeching about why Leigh had been following him, that if he didn't talk soon the dark drake would give him a reason to make noise. Leigh very nearly fainted again, stuttering out why he was headed towards the Windswept Plateau in a hurry. The mirror glanced at his companion for but a second before letting Leigh back onto his feet.
Turns out the two where also headed to the Plateau, it was home to them and after they had finished their business they were a little high strung. Leigh introduced himself, ever the polite creature he was. The pale pearlcatcher dressed in black introduced himself has Rakin, then with great flourish he introduced his companion as the most explosive, cheap, muscle head he had ever met, Valen. Valen then proceeded to prove two of those three proclamations true. When Valen had thoroughly gave Rakin a thrashing, he turned to Leigh and apologized for the inconvenience. The two took to the sky after words leaving Leigh on the road dumbfounded, terrified, and intrigued.
Turns out, Rakin and Valen where part of a well known group amongst the less savory types. For all its grandeur and brilliance the Windswept Plateau had a fair amount of mercenaries and headhunters coming through its main cities. Leigh didn't know what had come over him, sure he was terrified but the thought of meeting Valen again spurred him on into more dangerous territory. When someone finally pointed him in their direction he was starting to feel all that repressed fear once again. What if he was ran off? What if the leader didn't want him around? All Leigh wanted was to ask a few questions, and maybe learn a little about them all.
It wasn't Valen or even Rakin that found his fumbling around outside. A pale skydancer elegantly made her way to him, looked him dead in the eye for a full minute making him extremely uncomfortable, the told him that Thea says to ether get inside and ask what you came to ask or stop skulking on her front lawn. With an airy wave of her hand the skydancer turned and left just as regally as she had appeared. Taking a deep fortifying breath, Leigh talked himself into entering the dark caves in front of him. He only went when an angry voice told him to get his tail in gear and get in here. This was the point where Leigh regrets with every fiber of his being for becoming so infatuated with a stranger. Before him was the scariest looking drake he had ever seen. She was dressed for battle, her bone crown bleached white, armor polished to a gleam, and eyes that pinned him in place.
Leigh is fairly certain that Thea would have killed him then and there if Rakin hadn't elatedly shouted that he knew him. Rowen didn't seem to care ether way, Zakai and Diaval probably would have presented Leigh's head at Thea's feet. Valen seemed to be in the same boat as Rowen with the not caring which hurt a little. Rakin was glad he was there, if only because now he had someone else to potentially tick off or freak out in Leigh's case. Thea saw some use in a culturist, someone who could potentially point out minute details for easier defeat. Leigh is far to intimidated by her to really say anything against it.
