Biography
Resembling dragons made of captured sunlight kissed by gentle winds, the Ethereal Nobles (Étheriéns Noble) are the last of a rare subspecies whose ancestors originated in the opposing but adjacent worlds of Shadow and Light.
These beautiful, enigmatic dragons have been seen only a few times by outsiders. Catching glimpses of them as they drift through the bamboo forests of the Reedcleft Ascent is said to bestow a feeling of such joy that some dragons give up everything and spend the rest of their lives searching for these near-mythical creatures.
Some people might call them a legend, and there have been few documented examples of Ethereals. It’s said that they keep watch over the lowlands of the Windswept Plateau from their perches in the Reedcleft Ascent, rarely venturing out to interact with other dragons.
Isolation has caused these dragons to become a secretive bunch. They have many secret rituals unknown to outsiders, and keep a tight hold on their knowledge. Because the Nobles are exceptionally long-lived, they often spend years just gathering vast stores of knowledge. It’s said that they have a library somewhere with scrolls upon scrolls and books full of the world’s secrets, but they’ve never told anyone where it is. They are highly protective of their knowledge.
When they aren’t studying, these dragons love the warm, windy days on the Ascent, when the wind rushes through the grass. They fly kites for enjoyment and drape themselves across rocks and patches of clover to soak up the heat of the sun. The younger hatchlings also love to fly through the bamboo forests when they have the time – chasing each other around, and laughing gleefully.
Ancestors are an important part of who they are. Every Ethereal Noble can trace their origins back through the years to recall many distinguished ancestors. It’s a point of pride for these dragons to know exactly where they came from. They also tend to collect ancient artifacts with important historical relevance; the sword of an ancestor who turned the tide of a great battle, or a book written by a famous author years ago.
