Konane became lost to his natal clan's home territory when he was a hatchling too young to remember where they lived. His earliest recollections center on inhabiting a noisy nest with two other hatchlings and a lone adult female guardian, whom he always thinks of as his mother. They were, however, killed by a band of hydra scorpions when he was barely old enough to fly. Konane escaped, and spent many seasons trying to find and fit into new communities. He never stayed long, however, partly because his nervous, anxious demeanor seldom left a good impression on others, often being interpreted as shifty untrustworthiness. One day things changed when he got in a fight with some other dragons who had accused him of theft. Konane protested that he hadn't done anything, but the other dragons saw him as an outsider in the community, and he acted nervous, as if he had something to hide. Kailani, passing by and strongly disliking the looks of an unequal battle, helped him survive the fight. Afterwards, she said she trusted him. That convinced him to return with her to SeaRuffle, and there he has stayed, finding for the first time a community in which he feels safe. Of course the question remains--had Konane actually stolen the dragon's pouch? Has SeaRuffle taken in a theif? Nothing suspicious has happened to impugn Konane since his arrival in SeaRuffle, and he began to relax and plan his future. His sense of safety has, however, been greatly tested since the clan decided to found the Fishspine Scolia and open its doors not just to dragons, but to beastkin as well. What if hydra scorpions decide to attend? Konane cannot be sure how he might respond. Does he want to avenge his family, or never see a hydra scorpion again? Would he kill the scorpions, or would he flee? Unsure, he immures himself in the kitchens, spending his days cooking, not certain he can trust either himself or his safety outside its boundaries. While he has a positive relationship with Sanibel, under whom he works well, Konane only confides in his mate, Kailani. Scholia students are often disappointed when trying to sneak treats in the kitchen at times Konane is around, for he trusts them no more than he trusts himself. No matter what promises or offers they make, he refuses to allow them to take even one sea urchin away as a treat, and he's also likely to tell their Shoal Scout that they were sneaking into the kitchen. |
