Meissa

It was a dark and stormy night at sea. Waves and whirlwinds crashed against the Atlas in a great crescendo. Meissa and her crew gathered themselves to make it through the storm, but things weren't looking good. A whirlpool was starting to form, but this wasn't one caused by the storm.

A great leviathan circled below them. It was a creature of legend, one that devoured sailors whole and hunted water dragons for their magical abilities. This one was very real, and the size of an emperor dragon. The slightest movement of its fins caused treacherous wakes. The ship flipped over with a single slap from its tail.

Panic struck the crew, their imminent doom dawning on them. This was the end for the Atlas crew. In one last effort to protect her charge, Meissa dove in after the leviathan and sunk her claws and teeth into it, but to little avail. The skin of the beast was too thick and leathery to pierce. She clung to it for dear life, watching in terror as her crew got swept away in one blow.

She was the only one who made it out alive, soon dying due to the immense grief and heartache she had to face. Drifting alone at sea on what was left of the Atlas, she perished.

Now Meissa wanders the sea as a ghost of what she once was. Her charge, now taking the form of whispering spirits, surround her at all times. It's fabled you can see her ethereal ship on nights of the full moon, sailing aimlessly, forever lost. Those who live to tell the tale of the ghost ship describe a heavy feeling of emptiness and grief overcoming them in its presence.
