Atreides identifies unknown remains, dispels hauntings, and appeases ancestral spirits. By singing in peculiar low tones, he speaks with the spirits of the dead. He always brings them offerings and approaches them respectfully, and this usually defuses any hostility ghosts may hold.

His prized instrument is an antique golden censer. Before each ritual, he heats it and stands on his haunches to wave the censer, filling the air with aromatic smoke. The swaying motion and otherworldly scents help him enter a trance to commune with the lost souls.

Smoke is so vital to his work that he's even altered his body to reflect it. Shimmering fog rolls across patches his body, showing glimpses of a surreal and beautiful landscape. He supposes that if the afterlife is a tangible place, it must look similar.

Atreides hates to have an audience. He only lets others participate if he absolutely must. The clan must be careful not to interrupt him, or else the whole ritual will be ruined.
