Biography

bedek rubblewing
he/him | homosexual | mining operations | minemaster

|| Background
Bedek hails from the heart of all minerals in Sornieth, the arid lands of Dragonhome. He was hatched long ago in Terraclae, in one of the oldest clans in the abandoned quarry; therefore, it was no wonder the young Fae quickly revealed a fantastic talent at Earth magic. In his youth, Bedek was one of the finest of Earth mages, and a talented miner along with it. Growing up alongside earth and rock gave him an intimate knowledge of everything mineral, and as he got older, Bedek used all of it to his advantage.

After much experimenting, the still-young Bedek created his first golem out of metal, the shapeshifting construct Copper. After the golem's creation, he used its abilities to make yet more, honing his skill with each new construct. It didn't take long for Bedek to become known for his magics and his wonderful creations. Dragons would come from all over Sornieth to buy his golems, and he took every bit of treasure to fund more structures. His entire clan was proud of him, and Bedek was sure he was an honor in the eyes of the Earthshaker.

But it was not to last. Bedek created twenty golems in his lifetime; by the time he reached the twentieth, he was middle-aged and he was stubbornly ignoring a problem that had been creeping up on him for years: his magic was beginning to wane. He was proud, and refused to fizzle out. He wanted to make the finest golem Sornieth had ever or would ever seen, and exerted himself far too much with his last. Once the dust settled, he had achieved his goal, but with a great cost to himself; the twentieth golem was fine indeed, but Bedek was burnt out. He would never use his magic in full again.

Now forcibly retired from his life's work barely halfway through said life, it didn't take much for Bedek to become sour and jaded. He sold all his remaining golems— spare the first, Copper, and his finest last— and retreated into his clan, and didn't return to society for a long time. It took years for Bedek to keep going, and he found a new spark when he was elected minemaster of one of his clan's mining projects. But his heart had broken, and being in his home clan was too much of a reminder. When he heard of a clan that needed someone with experience in mining in the Starfall Isles, Bedek decided to pack his bags and leave, to hopefully never look back.

|| Current
Despite his bitter demeanor, Bedek is an immeasurably valuable dragon to Rara Avis, and very nearly the one who single-talonedly put the then-small clan on the map. His expert mining facilities and direction allowed the chalcedony mines to flourish, and with business booming, Rara Avis blossomed along with it.

Still, there is something inside of the old Fae that remains broken. He knows he'll never be even a shadow of what he once was, and it haunts him. Rara Avis isn't such a bad replacement, but Bedek knows that his finest golem is still hidden away in the depths of his home clan, never to be released except at his word. And the rest are scattered across Sornieth, the closest thing he's ever had to children. No one knows what'll fill the void in his heart... least of all himself.

|| Notes
◈ Bedek is in his early seventies.
◈ During his original career, Bedek used minerals with other elemental energies to make his golems affiliated with other Flights, despite his own Earth heritage.
◈ Though he has had several partners through his life, none of his relationships lasted, and Bedek has somewhat given up on love, though he secretly wants to believe he still has a soulmate out there somewhere.
◈ After his magic ran out, Bedek's body seemed to falter as well. He uses a cane to walk, and can no longer fly properly, but is able to glide for short distances.
◈ Leila has been with Bedek ever since his magic was burnt out, and serves as a therapy animal as well as his familiar. She's able to comfort and support him whenever he's having a bad day.
◈ In his youth and heyday, Bedek was once heavily pious to the Earthshaker, and many (himself included) thought he was blessed by the god. Ever since he wore himself out, he has turned away from his deity, and the only remnant of his faith is the small statue in his personal den.
