Haukur has been diagnosed with autism since being born. His snowy appearance made his parents strangely love him, though. He wasn't abandoned, he wasn't pampered. He was just perfect. To his parents, at least. His imagination was vivid, which prevented family from rejecting him. Haukur discovered paper and a pencil could let him escape his rotten existence for several glorious hours.

He created towers and castles with spiraling peaks, mountains that reached to the clouds, the rubble of homes and the crying of pleading hatchlings. His parents were surprised at this talent, for his beautiful sketches almost seemed to predict the futures. Haukur once drew a photo of an uncolored Fae killing a family -- one of his darker drawings -- and a year later, the event occurred, a headline in the nearly silent news broadcasts. Something was confusing here. Could he truly see into the future? As it turned out, he could not, as written in a later diary of his. He had simply guessed.

One evening, Haukur was at home with his family, his silence breaking the sound at the dinner table. He was drawing again, now a full-grown adult. He was dreaming of the wonderful ice palace, sketching it out onto the thin paper. When his family went to admire it, they saw themselves in it, fraternizing like royalty. This vision, which Haukur had been dreaming of since his birth, finally came to life as the family went sailing the next day and discovered the castle in the distance, atop a snowy mountain. Truth.
