Warning for body horror below Yennefer began her life as a Guardian in the Tangled Wood, her Charge a tiny Fae named Geralt. The two made a home for themselves and started a clan. Far too soon, however, they were challenged by an upstart young Wildclaw and her Ridgeback mate. Rather than risk a fight to the death, as Yennefer would have defended him to the last breath, Geralt coaxed her to leave. The two of them left to serve the Shadowbinder, and left their home in the claws of a new leader. Yennefer learned much from the Shadowbinder- of magic and subterfuge, of darkness and piercing the veil, and of changing to suit her needs. One of these new lessons included changing her form into something that suited her new skills. She shrank, twisted, and immediately began to have convulsive coughs that wracked her frame. After days of expectorating, she finally coughed up ... something. It was black in the light- or what passed as light- in the Shadowbinder's realm. It glistened, and... pulsed. By scent alone, she knew it was from her body, and by instinct, she retched again- this time, a black ichor dribbling from her mouth and onto the object she'd produced. Obsessively, she ran her claws through the black fluid and over the effigy, coating it, and shaping it into a sphere. Over time, it became a pearl, and Geralt approached his mate, a sombre approval in his eyes. He, too, had changed, to something far more suited to the task of hunting shadows in a world full of them. "Are you ready to go home?" She asked. "Not yet. Go ahead, and wait for me." She reached out and touched his slender muzzle, licking his snout before he dipped his head to touch the orb on his forehead to the pearl she clutched. A wordless promise, a thousand memories, and a million emotions ran, unspoken between them. "I will always wait for you."
