Biography
Saved from Exalt, LvE
Retired
~~~
Rex was thirsty. Terribly, terribly thirsty. He was hot and dry, fur and feathers baking in the desert heat of the Shifting Expanse. With each breath, he inhaled scorching air and dust that seared his lungs. An ocean of sand surrounded him on all sides. There was no water to be found, even with his bird's-eye view.
Lightning dragons were not meant for desert heat - they usually stayed underground - yet surviving it would only bring him somewhere worse. He was fated to serve a deity that wasn't his. He was supposed to fight a battle he cared nothing about. This flight across the desert was his calling. Exaltation was said to be the highest honor a dragon could receive, but to him it felt like he was a hatchling again. Unwanted, traveling again and again to clans he would never remain in.
Suddenly an idea struck him, and with it sparks of hope and fear. No one else was out here. It wasn't as if he had to obey the Lightweaver's calling . . . and yet she was still a god. No one disobeyed the gods.
Rex's throat burned. He looked toward the sun - the bright, blinding sun - for a few moments, and then made the most important decision of his life.
The god of light would not claim him today.
