ACCEPTING OFFERINGS OF
Hephaestus loathes his appearance in the mirror.
At the same time, he cannot stop looking at it. He marvels in how different it looks from his beautiful mother, Hera, and the bitter expression it always holds. Scars and patches of fur tattered everywhere around its body, especially around its hands. It was gross and weird and horrible, and he hates the fact that it was, indeed, him.
His mother once forced Aphrodite to marry him. He learned how to love, and first loved her. That was his first big mistake, as all he had wanted and still wants is everything about her. He wants her to look at him the same way she looks at Ares, or to once more give him encouraging words about loving himself.
He wishes that he was her everything, just as she was his.
When the affairs first started, Hephaestus held on hope to the fact that she still loved him. She told him her plan: the other gods were too hateful and vengeful, and needed to be showed how to love. To do that, she would have to love them. He was not on board with the plan, as all he wanted as Aphrodite to himself, but he agreed and let her go.
But then she had to fall in love with Ares. It wasn’t the typical love that she had formed with the other gods. No, she went back to him more and more, and soon Hephaestus hardly sees her anymore. He is bitter and greedy, and all he wants in life is someone, someone to love him.
At night, when he thinks no one is home or listening, he curses Aphrodite and Ares, his mother and Zeus, and sometimes even himself. He stares at his reflection as he does this, and Hephaestus loathes his appearance in the mirror.

Hephaestus is bitter and lonely when He visits apollo.
apollo is a good friend, and always had been. he is a peacemaker, for which Hephaestus is grateful. he shines light on His life, bringing force a new way to continue each new day. He leaves his house, feeling better than before, and so happy He can call apollo his friend.
He isn’t sure when things started changing. First, they were friends. Hephaestus doesn’t have many friends, especially since He is known as the runt of the family, but He has apollo. apollo, with the dirty jokes and sly comments; apollo, always with the right words to brighten your day; apollo, the dragon with many lovers.
Hephaestus doesn’t feel upset or lonesome when apollo talks about his past and present flings. He enjoys listening to all the stories that he spouts, whether they are joyful or full of remorse, even if most of the stories are saddening. he talks about Marie or Fernando or sometimes even a Mark. Usually, it is Him who does the most comforting, even if He thinks He’s bad at it.
It first starts in Hephaestus’s workshop. He is working on one thing or another, usually more things than one at once. apollo is there, silently watching as he usually does, or sometimes humming to himself. He doesn’t mind; apollo has a nice voice. While He is waiting for the metal to get hot enough, slowly cooking it to perfection, He lays down on the couch next to him. He is tired; He and Aphrodite had had another argument the night before.
apollo listens to His story, as he always does. He expects some word of the day, or maybe a strange fact used to make Him smile. Instead, he takes his clawed hand and places it on His own. He stares at him for a moment, maybe two, but does not move. He doesn’t know why, but He enjoys this, almost as much as He enjoys spending time with him.
apollo smiles at Him, and Hephaestus thinks maybe He doesn’t need to be bitter or angry or loathsome. He just needs to be Him.
