Z ᴇ ʀ ᴏ
A star is born in a distant galaxy, space dust growing attracted to each other more and more until a small spark of heat set it all ablaze, giving way to a massive ball of burning plasma. The star watched as rocks gathered around it, circling about the superhot celestial mass as if they were participating in an elaborate dance. The star burned idly as life formed on these rocks, as they built tiny civilizations, and tried to comprehend who they are and where they are, then dying before they ever got the answers they sought. Then, one day, a crack in the star formed.
A massive burst of heat shot forth from the crack in the star, torching all of the planets that has gathered around it in a giant supernova. And in the wake of destruction, only a dragon was left, the one who was incubating inside the star for innumerable millennia. One that felt so terribly lonely when he first opened his eyes and realized that all the life he had subconsciously witnessed and had grown attached to was gone. Zero drifted listlessly through the stars, unsure of what to do, unsure of his purpose. He must have been created for some reason, right? Was his purpose to destroy, as his hatching had? Zero came across a strange planet, with strange creatures all over it, some of them looking strangely like Zero himself. He wanted desperately to get closer, to look at the life on the surface of the small rock as they did, but he was afraid. Afraid of destroying something so wondrous again. So he kept his distance, watching from afar. Curiously, the little beings on the planet seemed to be watching him as well, though large (in comparison to the creatures using it, anyway, for Zero was far larger than the entire planet) constructions that could see much further into the cosmos than the creatures by themselves ever could. For every move Zero made, the little artificial eyes moved to follow him, seemingly just as inquisitive about the star-born creature as he was them. With every movement Zero made, the little creatures scribbled something down, like they were recording him, trying their best to make sense of what they were seeing. Perhaps, through this vague method, Zero could communicate? He started pushing stars around, and the behavior of the creatures on the planet changed. If the stars were aligned in this way, they seemed to become more wary, as if thinking they had bad luck. If he shifted the arrangement of another set of stars, suddenly the star-watchers would gather the courage to confess their love to others. Maybe this is Zero’s purpose, to guide destinies by shifting stars and letting the funny little creatures on the planet he didn’t dare get too close to interpreting his movements as they will.
