Every flight has their own quirks that they are known for, things about them that unify them as a flight. Ice dragons may come across cold, but they have warm hearts. Plaguelings always wish to spread the disease, but this made them some of the most hardy dragons, and some of the best healers. Lightning dragons have a tenacity and a skill with tinkering that no other flight can claim. Though there are always exceptions to the rule, the rule usually covered the majority. Sakura was no exception. Born to an Icedancer and a Lightningcatcher, one would think she would have pulled some of the cool attitude from her father, or at least the tinkering likes of her mother. But Sakura was born in Nature, named for Nature, and Nature was where her heart called home. Even as a hatchling, Sakura had a way with plants and the denizens of the wild that others could appreciate. While her creature-handling skills were not the best, she could still make all feel welcome. Her true skill, however, was taming the plantlife. She was able to simply nudge or ask things of the vines and creepers and they would move, throns adjusting to miss her hide, leaves and branches swaying to give her clear passage. It was just her way, something so natural to her that she did it as easily as she drew breath. When Sakura finally gathered her belongings to venture into the world, the forest itself seemed to gather for her sending-off. The brambles grew around her, adorning the mantle she wore so she always had a piece of home with her. Amid the laughing and hugging and carrying on, the trees managed to sneak blossoms into her mane, and the birds sang her goodbye. Sakura knew that she would always carry home in her heart, but her place was not within the familiar pathways of the Viridian Labyrinth. There was a clan out there that needed her talents, needed her help desperately, and she was going to find them. Traveling the land was always something that a dragon was encouraged to do, since it would give a broader sense of culture and the differences between flights. Sakura learned much on her trip, picking up knowledge about gemstones from the Earth dragons, gathering some new spells from those in the isles of the Arcanist, even learning a few dances from the dragons that called the Windswept Plateau home. Yet she still searched. She searched from the Fortress of Ends to the Sea of A Thousand Currents, journeyed through the Abiding Boneyard and the Tangled Forest, but it was a small village near the Hewn City where she first felt a tug on her heartstrings. A Fae was laying on the grass under the sun, watching the clouds and seeming to be amusing himself with what shapes they made. His wings seemed at odd angles for one who needed to fly, his legs tucked under him in a way that suggested he could not stand, and the mechanical contraption that screamed a Lightning Mastertinker had made it was close by. She watched him for a bit before sitting down next to him, looking up at the sky. "I see a rabbit there." The fae smiled, nodding and pointing to the cloud next to it. "And that eagle looks rather miffed, does it not?" The pair laughed and pointed out cloud shapes for hours before the male finally got back into his mode of transportation. He studied the Pearlcatcher for a long moment before smiling, turning for his home. Over his shoulder he murmured, "Welcome to the Merciful. You should meet my wife. She will be ecstatic to have someone like you in the clan." |
So Sakura found herself not only a home, but dutifully employed helping others. Her intimate knowledge of plant life and ability to communicate with Nature allows her to gather the many different ingredients needed for the poultices and salves that Mercy and Niko use in their work, and she takes time every week to study with the Brewmaster, Baldwin, to further try and assist. Though no longer in the Everbloom Gardens or able to see the Behemoth, she still feels that the lands around the Hewn City are now her home, and enjoys her time helping the Merciful.
note from parents
There is a great gust of air as the hulking, perhaps even intimidating, figure of the male Ridgeback lands on the outskirts of the little village in the Hewn City. If his alert golden eyes do not betray his elemental affiliation then the rest of him surely does for he shines from head to foot. The sunlight glints off his spikey back and ripples with every flex of his metallic wings. "I am Louks. Light representative of the Warwillow Clan and this is a package for Sakura from her parents. They regret not coming in person but would rather not cross the borders in uncertain times. Clan leader Thereos sends his regards as well." He drops the package off and takes to the skies again, soon only a glinting speck in the distance.
The note reads,
"Sakura,
If it has taken us so long to write then we are sorry. Things are never stagnant here in the Viridian Lybrinth and the Clan is in flux both in numbers and in location. What is there to tell you aside from how proud we are for travelling far and finally finding a place to settle. If there is one thing the Clan can agree on it is that all hatchlings are to spread their wings and go off on adventures of their own. You are one of the best examples of that and we are very proud. We hope that you continue to do good work and be well.
Your parents.
