Biography

The Watcher

An intimidating watcher who stalks the icy corridors of the Keep. Berus will lead dragons who have become lost back to the residential areas. He favours wandering the catacombs, a place most of the Keep's inhabitants shun. They don't know that Berus has seen what horrors the buried castle has to offer, or that the dusty skulls and old tombstones look cozy compared to them.

Berus has lived in the Keep for as long as he remembers, long before Morse and the others arrived. It used to be just him and his mother, a ridgeback explorer by the name of Dammerung. It was normal for her to be away for days on end, hunting and running errands. She would warn Berus never to enter the deep parts of the Keep and stay near the entrance, where the castle broke through the glacier. Temperatures were extremely low down those parts of the Keep and it was easy to become lost in the lightless corridors, especially for a small dragon.
The pair had created a cozy nest for themselves in the hallway. Candles lit up the tapestried walls and a fireplace served as their source of heating. In the warm glow of the flames and the crackling sound of the logs it was easy to forget that beyond the hall lay a massive, unexplored complex. On stormy nights Berus would hear noises coming from below: low, wailing sounds as if from a wounded animal. His mother would reassure him that it was only the wind blowing through the cracks and tunnels of the glacier, nothing unusual in the Icefield.

How Berus longed for those nights when he could still believe her.
