Biography
Changeling - Chef - Charmer
|
Starling is a completely normal dragon. On an unrelated note, you might have heard tales of changelings in your travels—shapeshifting Faerie infants swapped with dragon hatchlings at birth. Often they’re traded out with “fae” dragons, because actual Fae love a double meaning, but not always. Sometimes a changeling takes the form of a snapper or a tundra. Maybe they could even be a mirror! Wouldn’t that be something? The thing is, Starling has heard being a changeling is actually really exhausting. If your mortal ruse is ever discovered, you’ll be banished back to the Fae lands. Which is really unfair, in his opinion! A changeling was born in the mortal world, raised by mortal parents. They’d probably be very upset if they suddenly had to go back to their original Fae parents who, need I remind you, traded her for a random mortal baby for some stupid reason. But still, even if a Fae lives their whole life in the mortal world, it can be hard to blend in. Fae heritage comes with certain instincts and allergies that can be suspicious. Plus, sometimes the shape the shapeshifter took might…shift. Most normal dragons, when frightened, do not partially melt. Some do though!!! If you see Starling doing this, please note that it is completely normal. One way a changeling might consider keeping up their ruse is moving into a house full of madness and monsters, where little things like an aversion to iron might go unremarked upon. A house much like the one where Starling works, in fact, as the resident House Chef. Cooking for the House of Echidna is not an easy job. Most of the residents have dietary restrictions ranging from unusual to unethical, and failing to satisfy the hoard risks putting yourself on the menu. Luckily, Starling can prepare everything from casserole to carrion without breaking a sweat. Everyone who tastes his food finds it simply enchanting. What’s that? You heard a rumor that Starling imports “secret ingredients” from the Fae realm, food that famously confuses and ensnares mortal senses, making them easy prey for Fae schemes? How silly! The real secret ingredient in Starling’s food…is love! Nothing else that you can prove. If, hypothetically, every single member of the House was actually 100% aware that their chef was a Fae creature in “disguise,” they might simply have made a pact not to point it out. After all, if Starling was banished to the Fae realms, they’d have to go back to making their own breakfasts. So please, stay for dinner. After one bite of Starling’s food, you’ll never want to leave.
