there's laughter behind you
so sweet it's now a drug
bubbling, erratic energy
hot sugar burns the tongue
apathetic with too much enthusiasm
bit lost in your own mind
cherries and a red maple forest
dangerously insistant
nervous ticks and wild eyes

You wandered too far. You don't exactly know what you wandered too far into, but you do know that you shouldn't be here. You really, really shouldn't be. Multicolored candy wrappers were strewn around you. They were on top of the fallen leaves and they rested on thick winding branches. The forest itself wasn't like the autumn forests you were used to. The leaves weren't a dying brown, but a lively cherry red. It and all the candy leftovers put you on edge for reasons you couldn't explain.

You turned around to head back, but a Spiral blocked your path. Her eyes were wide and her grin wider. Her body briefly spasmed before her eyes darted over your features to look you over. A giggle bubbled out of her and it sounded sweeter than anything. It was all the more deadly for it. She flew up to curl around a branch near you, and she leaned in while you leaned back. She pouted at first, but then giggled again and fluttered over to land on your shoulder.

"Don't be afraid!~ You shouldn't be afraid, being afraid is bad~" She poked your cheek and you flinched away. "You should be Happy!"

Her voice did this weird thing and shook all your senses loose, and she quickly covered your eyes while you were disoriented. "Don't worry! It'll hurt, but then you'll feel the cherry syrup running through your veins~ You'll be like the rest of us! Just how you should be~"
