Potion Recipe
Lore Notes
"Love Potion" Imperials take ingredients that they find around Sornieth to come up with a blend of love potion that has powerful magical abilities. They store their potion in their capsule bellies, and use it much like venom to influence other creatures.
While large doses can indeed cause the target to develop romantic feelings, it is rare for a Love Potion Imperial to use quantities large enough to inspire true love. Instead, small doses are used to influence others in their favor, or calm tensions in case of conflict. Mates will often share each others' potion as an exercise in bonding. Love Potion Imperials usually choose their mates for life, but may have more than one permanent mate, with trios of bonded dragons being common. In the event that a dragon dies, their surviving mate or mates will almost always change their potion recipe. Some dragons use their potion as a weapon in battle, causing their enemies to fall hopelessly in love and stop fighting altogether. The Love Potion dragon then deserts their now infatuated enemy to mourn their broken heart. Luckily, the potion has a half-life of no more than 12 hours. While no two dragons use the exact same recipe, some ingredients are popular choices. Flowers and fruits for their sweet aroma and flavours, as well as medicinal ingredients and even minerals are all popular choices. Young dragons sometimes attempt to add meat to theirs, but soon learn it is a poor choice as it tends to spoil. A small number of talented dragons have managed to successfully add components of animals to their potions, but this is quite rare. Love Potion Imperials can be easily identified, as they are proud creatures who each think their potion recipe is the best, and enjoy showing off their ingredients to anyone who lingers around long enough. Some dragons have attempted to hold potion contests to test whose is the most potent, but the judges typically become too infatuated with the contestants to ever come to a decision.
The lore written above was collaboration between Xylona and myself.
The sound of rushing bubbles and metallic clinking first overwhelm you as you open the carved, cherry door and walk into the elaborate, pristine room, the smell of lilac and vanilla greet you warmly like a mother's hug. "Hello? Miss Sevda?" you call out, adjusting the unwieldy satchel on your shoulder as the pain bit into your flesh. The journey was long but the miraculous views and greenery of the Viridian Labyrinth was well-worth it. "I'll be with you in a minute!" came a soft, gentle voice from across the room and you take your time following its source, admiring the floral plum and gold wallpaper that held family portraits, framed pressed flowers and preserved insects that were almost unbelievably bizarre and yet so fascinating. Eventually you make your way to Sevda, clan brewer and healer, also known as the Potions Mistress. A delicate sigh huffs from the impressive, fuchsia Imperial as she studies a set of elegant glass bottles, each one filled with a different colored liquid that seemed to sway and swirl even though they were still on the unwieldy, oak table. Sevda's motions are fluid, smooth and how she is able to maneuver through a room without bumping into absolutely anything was a surprise. Everything that needed a place, had a place, and was neatly organized and cataloged to the point that it could be seen as obsessive. Or brilliant. "U-um, excuse me?" you ask, a bit timid to disturb the lady, taking time to note of her marigold flower crown that gave her an endearing disposition. "I was wondering if you could brew something for me." Sevda's rose eyes flicker over to you and she smiles sweetly, walking over to approach you with a small wave. "Oh, of course! Pardon me, I can get absorbed into my work at times. What would you like?" You tell the Imperial and she nods, pearl teardrop earrings sway as she grabs a black leather-bound book from the end of the table with the vials. Flipping to the next empty page Sevda holds it out in front of you in one claw, while the other held a quill. "Just write down what you would like in my ledger. You can leave your ingredients in the cabinet over there," she points with the quill, "and your treasure in the blue porcelain jar next to the cabinet." Sevda then points to a slate blue jar with what looked to be an Imperial twisting around the vessel and roaring proudly once they reached the top. After you finished writing your order and carefully store your items away, Sevda closes the ledger with a satisfying thud. You give your thanks, take another moment to admire the fascinating, charming room, and then head out with a smile and a wave. "Now, I know I have the recipe somewhere in here..." Sevda murmurs once the weighty door firmly shuts, hoisting a worn leather-bound book that was attached to a holster around her waist onto the table as she made her way around it. It landed with a thump, dense and full with pages that were absolutely brimming with knowledge from not just her experiences but her parents as well. Claws turned over page after page until fuchsia eyes settled. "Okay, first I need..."
