{ Matchmaker | He/Him | Gay } Though born under the Stormcatcher, Elspeth’s heart belongs solely to the sea, where he spent his golden youth. His mother and father, each coming from old money and having much of it to spare, took him to the seaside often. It was only natural, they believed, for a young Guardian to be drawn to the water; from the sea their breed had come, and to the sea they would all one day return. Yet, Elspeth loved it more than any other, purely and faithfully. It is said that this is how he obtained his Sight. The sea, so moved by his love for it, reached out and pulled him into its embrace, wishing to be nearer to him. When Elspeth resurfaced, his scales shone with a new light. As he stared into the multi-hued facets of the ocean’s gift, he saw within them what would one day come to pass. Now, like so many of his brethren, he was a prophet. However, you must understand that Opal in those days was yet a rare and misunderstood affliction. Those who met Elspeth feared him, for he had gone into the sea and come out Changed. His parents, once so doting, looked upon him with revulsion, and so Elspeth retreated into a long isolation. For many months, he hid in dark corners and sought the love of his mother and father once more. He chipped away at his Opal, bit and tore, but any piece he managed to break off grew back before the day was out. Thus his parents hated him still, and Elspeth hated the sea. One fine late-winter morning, Elspeth just so happened to overhear a pair of workers chatting outside his window. Timidly, he pressed his ear against the glass and listened as they spoke of a clan in the Sunbeam Ruins—and of all the strange dragons living there. “Freaks,” the workers called them, but Elspeth called them “kin.” He left his home in the Shifting Expanse, disowning his mother and father for their cruelty, and again devoted himself to the sea. From the shores he had played on as a child, he traveled northward, into Feldspar territory, where he found a warm welcome in the clan’s seaside settlements. “You’re new,” they said—not strange, not hideous, but new, a word he had never thought could hold such significance. “Yes,” he said tearfully, “I’m new.” Since his emotional arrival in-territory, Elspeth has made a splash among his clanmates. He can See all things clearly, but his specialty, what he Sees most often and with the greatest clarity, is romance. Additionally, his customers’ love lives are his charges, so he dedicates himself even more zealously to his work. You can rest assured that any future Elspeth spies within his Opal will certainly come to pass. Understandably, he’s quite popular. With so many dragons scrambling for readings from a master matchmaker, he hardly has even a single moment to himself.
