Biography
The Talker and The Curious
Unfurling her wings, the baby dragon yawned and shook the sleep from her eyes. Immediately, she noticed the different smells around her.
Sitting up, she peered around her new surroundings with keen interest. Definitely not her usual lair, that's for sure.
How had she got here? She couldn't quite remember if someone had mentioned that she was off to somewhere new; she had been too excited to explore her previous lair, and dig tunnels, and play with her lair-mates to really listen to anyone back then.
After hours of hyped activity and chittering non-stop to herself and anyone who would listen, her energy reserves plummeted to a low and she had fallen asleep mid-air.
Automatically she curled her tail around the nearest object to her - a smooth, firm stalagmite - for safety and the next time she had awoken she'd appeared here, a new place to explore!
Inhaling the smells, she picked up several unrecognized bodies, and the smell of the lair - wow! Much cooler than what she was used to, the lair was carved into rough, pink tinged rock with green moss growing in some of the damp cracks and crevices. A subtle scent overlaid everything else, a hint of... clover perhaps? That was the only plant she knew of and had smelt, really, but it was nice none the less. Fresh.
A light breeze slithered into the lair and a tinge of salt tickled her nose. The sea was nearby! Seashell collecting sprang to her mind and she itched to get out there right now, but four shadows filled the entrance and moved towards her.
Two hatchlings of her age sprang forwards to greet her, while the other two adults, a carribean blue Guardian and a leaf green Fae, approached at a more leisurely pace.
The female Fae was graceful flittering in and wafted a stronger scent of the clover she had smelt earlier. The Guardian male strode towards her with measured strides and was much, much larger than the female, a steely gaze enhancing his sturdy exterior. The miniature Fae fluttered about, seemingly admiring her red circuit markings while the baby Guardian poked her, probing her to play.
"Welcome to our lair, child," said the female, her crest twitching and fanning out, catching the Spirals attention,
"You smell nice," she replied instantly, "of clovers." Both the mother and baby Faes' crests tilted back and the Guardian raised an eyebrow in suprise.
"Mother's a healer," the baby Guardian interjected, "she makes potions and picks herbs and stuff." He grinned, "I'm Lionel, nice to meet you!"
"Avery," chipped in the baby Fae, his crest flapping open and closed manically in... excitement? It was hard to say since the Faes' spoke in monotone. "Your pattern's pretty," he added.
So he was admiring it earlier, she thought, making a mental note of his crest at the time. She decided to make it a long term project to try and learn Fae crest-twitching since both of them were fascinating to watch.
The female introduced herself as Vesperia and gestured towards the carribean blue male as Ocheane who bowed his head.
"And your name?" he asked in a gruff, throaty voice.
Oh, a name. She hadn't named herself yet, her previous clan hadn't named her either. She started to ponder why when she noticed everyone was still waiting for an answer.
"Um, the thing is," she started, "I don't know and no one gave me one in my other clan so I kinda can't tell you mine until I think of one to name myself with, and I can't think of any yet. Oh, I know! No I don't. Actually how about Clover? Nah, that's not me. And that'll be weird to call me that after today. Maybe, Circe? I've heard that from somewhere! Wait, she's a witch or something from the Second Age, maybe not..."
She faded off since they were all staring at her, "Sorry, did I talk to much? That was kinda a problem with my old clan too, just stop me when you need to talk and I'll be quiet for a minute or so, not long I know but that's as much as I can give before getting bored and..." she stopped since Lionel had raised a foot to speak, "Yep?"
"How 'bout we name you?" he offered.
She took a split second to think,
"Oh, okay! That's cool! Can it begin with a V? I want to be called V, you know, as a nickname, 'cause my name actually being V would be kinda odd, even to my standards."
"If you want!" he laughed and the others huddled together to discuss.
After swinging her tail back and forth a few seconds, she took to flying in figure of eights since she found the action of waiting patiently rather dull.
"What do you think of Vanellope?" Avery called as she landed in a messy tangle on the floor.
"Oops, I suck at landing," she giggled, picking herself up, "Sorry, what was that?"
"Vanellope, what do you think?"
"That's nice! Oooh but I wouldn't like to be called Van, lets drop the A. But Vn sounds silly, that's not good... Vellope! Vellope's cool! How 'bout that?" the newly-named Vellope beamed.
"Vellope it is," Ocheane agreed with bemused eyes. The others nodded approval and the hatchlings dragged Vellope away to the beach, happy to have another playmate, while the adults watched their new addition fly away.
"Chatty, isn't she?" Vesperia commented. Ocheane didn't smile - that was usual - but his eyes gleamed with amusement,
"A bit mild of a description, don't you think V?"
