My Story
They said... There once was a druid who lived in the heart of the forest, ignorant to the ways of civilisation. Like all of his pagan kind, he was a regular practitioner of the dark arts, often abducting children to use in his spells. His most grievous sin of all, however, was his shunning of the truth; in the Eleven’s place, he misplaced his faith in rocks and trees. This culminated in a heinous act: with his black magic, he brought to life a bush of blackthorn and formed it into the shape of a she-drake. In this way, they were joined in unholy union. But the gods punished him by twisting his flesh into monstrous form, preventing him from ever leaving the depths of the wood and its darkness. He says… There once was a druid who lived in the heart of the forest, rejecting the ways of civilization. He was born long ago, in a faraway kingdom, but on the eve of his hatching his family discovered that he was without magic. His family cast him into the wilderness that night, to die amongst the beasts, but the rocks and the trees and the good earth of the forest took the boy in. Under their protection he learned their names and their secrets, and his faith in them grew strong. So devoted was he to his calling that, one day, a spirit of the blackthorn deigned to reveal herself fully to him. He was immediately taken by her beauty, and her by his gentle strength. Soon, they were joined in marriage, and the dowry of the forest was eternal youth. And so there in the wood they walk the secret paths no mortal man knows.
