Ah, the first Great Calling. It was to be the first of many Great Callings, and while it was no doubt the largest of its time, it would not be the last. Though none had come before it, many would come after. For those unaware, the Great Calling is the time when many hatchlings of this Clan are subject to exaltation. Given no choice or say in the matter, these children are sent to the Arcanist without a second thought or objection from their parents. Even the offspring of the Clan Progenitors are at risk of being sent away… but for reasons yet unknown, Syrolin stayed. It is unclear as to whether Syrolin stayed because his father simply couldn’t stand to see him go, or if it was because he was the favorite, or perhaps because his father simply needed an heir. Either way, he was kept by his father Farcry and trained to become a great Warrior of the Clan. A soldier in blood, bone, and heart, Syrolin trained his very hardest from the time he was a hatchling until he became an adult when the time came to face his own teacher in battle. He showed no mercy in striking him down; though he didn’t kill him, he cemented his place as a Warrior in the Clan. Although his early life was turmoil, by the time he reached adulthood, his life had begun to settle down. He found a mate and settled into daily life… until he felt the call that all Guardians feel at least once in their life. It was the call of his Charge, and it would end up being something no dragon ever would have suspected for him. Many believed that battle itself may be his Charge, or perhaps weaponry. But it ended up being something much gentler and tamer. Syrolin found that, whenever he was near the Clan’s Nursery, he felt a strong pull towards the hatchlings inside. Of course, protective parents meant that he could rarely get close, but that didn’t seem to bother him as much as it should have. He was content to watch from afar. Unsure of his motives at first, wary parents didn’t let their guard down, allowing only supervised play with their precious hatchlings. Despite his status as a Warrior, Syrolin was never harsh with the hatchlings, or mean to them in any way. In fact, he cared for the little ones as if they were his own. It soon became evident — at least, to Farcry — that Syrolin’s charge was hatchlings themselves. Perhaps it was simply the need to preserve the youth he’d never gotten to have, or the natural instinct to protect little ones. They would never know. All they did know was that he was there to stay for the children, and has now taken up a permanent position as a bodyguard for the Clan’s Nursery. No dragon dares to attack it while Syrolin stands guard, as they know he could easily rip them apart should he so choose. ________________________________________ |
