What I see is the back of the tapestry. I see the knots, the loose threads, the tangles, the mistakes. But child, you see the art. You see the brilliance in front of you. Take this as a lesson, young one. You may only see what is wrong with you, yes, but everyone else sees beauty. You need to turn the tapestry around.

Maia is the weaver, clothing maker, spinner and dyer of the clan. She makes the bulk goods to order, which can then be turned into fancy items by designers, like Shyllantham or others. She owns a little shop in the marketplace which is doing good business, and she's always looking to expand her repertoire of skills so she could make or source anything a customer might walk in looking for. Her shop sales assistant Aisling is a godsend, both a willing model and designer, and an excellent and willing salesperson- she deals with people and the money side of things, while Maia is left to her own joy of creation, uninterrupted unless someone has a particularly interesting request and Maia will emerge from her studio to help bring a bit of colour into yet another dragon's life.

BIO
By Katalist
Maia, like her name, is a matronly dragon. Showing a knack for weaving since she was young, Maia was never without her loom and thread, a habit picked up from the family she grew up with.

Maia spends her days weaving rugs and blankets for her new clan. Sometimes she takes on less practical pursuits, like fancy apparel and art, but her talent lies in things that can sell. She prefers to use plant based materials, as they adhere to dye easier, and is often seen with Sovari and Lyre, the colour specialists.

Maia is purely vegetarian, and refuses to use any animal products in her work, and would never bring herself to killing another animal, be they large or small. Some of her work focuses largely around animals however, especially the smaller ones.

Maia has no mate as of yet, but she is not actively seeking one out. She would much rather one come to her instead.

STORY
Maia was born on a rainy night in the Tangled Wood. The only colourless dragon out of her siblings, it didn't take long for her to get lost. It wasn't hard either, as the hustle and bustle of the huge clan meant the disappearance of a little tundra was barely noticed.

She spent the whole night out in the wild, shaking and calling for her mother. Her mushroom shield against the rain did little to keep her warm, and the ominous sounds of he woods kept sleep at bay for the little one. She had just dozed off at sunbreak when a large ridgeback found her little hideaway. Scared by his horn, she tried to flee, but was quickly grabbed and brought to their lair, a large tree rising out of the woods. Soon she was surrounded by ridgebacks, their large wings blocking out the thin sunlight petering in. Their loud voices boomed around the large room she was in, scaring her senseless, until a beautiful skydancer ran over and gathered her against her feathered wings. Soothed by the skydancer, she continued to watch the cacophony until a jet black ridgeback stepped forward. His head high, he granted Maia temporary solace within the clan.

Sticking with the skydancer closely, she was shown to the back of the lair, where a spot for her could be prepared. Trapped within the roots of the tree, she spent her days braiding from little strips taken from her walls. This behaviour didn't go unnoticed, however, as shown by the appearance of a loom and thread in her little nest one day. Sitting next to it was the skydancer from before. Guided by her skillful hands, Maia learned to prepare her thread, weave with the loom and sew edging. The work was rough, and frustrating, with her threads often falling out of their places, and her fur getting caught in the moving parts of the loom, but she finally started to figure it out. Soon her loom moved swiftly, weaving beautiful patterns among the guidelines.

It was where the messenger found her, weaving at her little station. The little spiral sat entranced at the quickly forming blanket before remembering herself. Tripping over her words, the spiral babbled out a request to join her clan. The leader there was looking for a dragon exactly like her, and had sent the spiral you on her dizzying hunt. All the rules had been followed, the grant requested, and she was free to leave and join their clan.

It didn't take long for her to accept.

The skydancer met her at the doorway, with gifts for the road. The spiral wigged out at the quantity of items, but the skydancer was gracious. She kissed Maia on the cheek and bade them a swift journey to her new home, where a new story will start.

OAKHEART
By Catkinstarchild
Maia thought she would have a hard time blending in to a brand new clan, to unfamiliar surroundings and even more unfamiliar sights, smells, tastes and sounds. To her surprise, and that of her newfound friends, she discovered an unusual magical trait which had lain hitherto dormant; that of a chameleonic ability to change colours to match her environment, her friends, even her fabrics. Perhaps because she'd left her home clan so young, she reasoned. Or perhaps it was the unusually strong magical field in this new clan, but whatever the case, she began to delight in her newfound abilities. Changing appearance as casually as another dragon might change scarves- and often using scarves, but also turbans, gemstones, types of metals- she could mix and match and delight in the results in a looking-glass.

As her interest in clothing and design grew, so did her expertise, and she expanded her weaving into clothier work, styling, hairdressing and fashion advice. Her client base grew, and she began to have quite the cosy little business operating from her modest shopfront in the marketplace. People noticed her everywhere she went, asked her advice on the latest trends, so she ended up following trends just for the sake of having answers to their questions, not because she cared for such silly things herself. Eventually she settled in with confidence. The vast change in her demeanour from a shy, unassuming and self-critical dragonlet to a calm, open, quietly self-assured and peaceful-hearted adult, did not go without notice- nor, eventually, did her constant kaleidioscope of colourful appearances. Some whispered magic, others hypothesised that there must be more than one dragon who called themselves Maia. Others still said she was experimenting with a whole new method for dying, and testing it on her own fur.
When Cynfor, her friend from all the way back in The Tribe, ran into her in the street one day and completely failed to recognise her until she hailed him, he had to ask. This awkward conversation ensued:
"Did you-" Cynfor looked her up and down, cleared his throat awkwardly- "Um, die recently?"
"I beg your pardon?!" Maia was affronted. "Whatever are you suggesting?"
"No offense, it's just- didn't you used to be, well, more- Black and white? And pink? I definitely remember pink."
"It's the dyes. The light in here makes everything look different." Maia patted her ruff self-consciously; "Why? Don't you think blue suits me?"
The spiral blinked slowly, in a way that can only be described as serpentine. "Anything suits you. You suit anything. Just- don't change what's inside of you. The outside doesn't matter, but the inside's- unique. Especially yours, Maia."
The silence stretched out between them, until suddenly Cynfor blinked again and flushed red under his makeup. He made a garbled excuse and sped off, leaving Maia to beam happily to herself all the way home.
