CLEMENTINE
ǝuᴉʇuǝɯǝlƆ
The Little Guardian

Clementine was never a peculiar hatchling, her short time towards play was well lived and the disturbance of her development was not a reason of distress within the lair. Despite this, Clementine wanted to transition into dragon-hood as soon as possible, and her ever so determined questions regarding it were rapidly shut down with the typical response of 'You'll grow up when you're ready.' However readiness never came forth and her resilience evolved into a deeper sense desperation. Clementine's childhood companions had long receded their five days of youth. Some accepted Sirel's gift of flowers and left their birth clan in the search to broaden their horizons. This opportunity never arrived for Clementine. A slave to her body... or mind rather. Despite the never ending coming of days, Clementine's mental age refused to change parallel to them. As a matter of fact- her mind didn't mature at all, it was at peace with her scrawny bones, and barely existing muscles. Identical to a newly hatched creature, she bursted with energy and a never quenched desire to play.

Clementine awed at almost anything she layed her eyes upon. The unknown was suddenly found as a work of art- a never before seen object. With this, any piece of prey, which a working dragon would return from a gathering, she would study. Interrogating every detail- each scale, each feather or antennae- until she'd have a clear image of it imprinted in her thoughts.

As days flew by, unconsciously her loneliness grew. Of course, she became friendly with every hatchling that was granted the gift of life. She had come to distinguish every dragon from each other- despite her short level of concentration. Somehow, in turn, each of her clan mates grew attached to her. Clementine's childish and silly remarks always amused the dragons they were directed to. She had become like a beacon of fuzzy light to many- delivering joy and a faint emotion of safety behind it.

Clementine's only true acquaintance was a young spiral named Spyre. She had met him upon his arrival to the clan. He was significantly smaller than her- and much more fragile, however as uncountable days flew by he efficiently outgrew her- the same as all dragons she befriended. Not only did his body change with an added masculine touch- his eyes were a subject to Clementine's concern. Each day his eyes took on a new shade of icey blue, until they settled on a piercing white glow. He was a peculiar one indeed. She was the only dragon to ever take note of this, along with the miniscule snowflakes that started to glide down his cheeks, and on to the already freezing Southern ground. His breath had become cooler than the fortress of ends, a single blow could captivate an enemy and leave them in an eternal Frigid sleep. Clementine didn't mind this, she had become accustom to it. Spyre rarely spoke regardless, she was rather the beginning, middle and end of whatever conversation she happened to engage in. Like the majority of things, this never bugged her, somehow- it budded an even greater curiosity for the young Spiral.

'Spyre! Look at the fishy!' Clementine squealed, staring at the prized catch in awe. Spyre grunted, glanced at the little mirror and cracked a smile. 'Oh right, I forgot you eat stinky bugs!' She chuckled and picked out a few beetles from the storage den they were both laying directly in front of. With disgust, she dragged them over in the heavy snow Spyre's eyes had formed. A nod from him and they both began to eat. Each insect he snatched up with his tongue was momentarily affected by his freezing insides. She longed to aid him- but it was a silly desire.

Through and through, Clementine proved an inability to learn. It seemed as though after a discovery- her mind would revert to her old train of thought. Despite this, she gained a hidden respect from her clan mates. Clementine's resilience and compassion were an aspiration to many, disregarding or these traits were truly a show of character or little knowledge. It soon came to that her lair role had become clear. 'The Guardian of the Nests' sounded like a jokingly menacing phrase, however it was never intended to be so. She provided a helping hand to many hatchlings, despite them all outgrowing her in a matter of days. The two pairs of her soft green eyes had become embedded into their tiny brains as the first theirs had ever seen.
