WHEN Dash's Delights first opened in the middle of the Flat, it caused something of a stir. Folks figured that surely, nothing with that kind of name should be anywhere near the heart of the town and what kind of people are we to stand for flagrant obscenity, anyway? A delegation of concerned and curious citizens arrived at the simple one-story establishment on opening day, fully prepared to give Dash a good moralising or at least a stern talking to, which is how everyone came to learn that Dash's Delights specialises in teas, a smattering of houseplants, and a motley collection of knickknacks which Dash himself calls "home beautifiers" and not in -- well, never you mind what anyone thought Dash's Delights specialised in. Dash himself is what folks like to call uncomplicated, which is a County word meaning someone with lots of brains they use for very little. What makes Dash any degree of successful is his kindness, his enthusiasm when talking to customers, and his encyclopedic knowledge of teas, tea brewing, the kinds of plants one can turn into teas, and how to make some of the rarer houseplants thrive in even the harshest Wasteland conditions. He has the bearing and outlook of someone who has probably never done a lot of traveling in their life -- which somehow doesn't stop him from having an extensive network of contacts throughout Sornieth, providing him with an almost inexhaustible means of acquiring even the rarest items for his customers' special orders. The rear lot of Dash's Delights has been taken over by a greenhouse designed by Dash himself, in which he keeps a collection of plants he finds aesthetically pleasing and a small sitting area Dash refers to as his reflection room. The fact that there is no discernible difference between the usual Wasteland climate and the interior climate of the greenhouse is just another reason why folks call Dash uncomplicated. |

IMPRESSIONS
His attire is many-layered and bright, typically decorated with dried flowers and more small bells than one could ever reasonably be expected to count. He has a slight County twang to his voice, which is otherwise pleasingly melodic and airy. Poor posture and what could be an old injury make him ungainly when in motion, but he's graceful as a doe when setting a table and pouring a cup of fine glow star tea.

RELATIONSHIPS
BUMBLECLAW's patronage probably sent the reputation of Dash's Delights through the roof overnight. Bumbleclaw's floral knowledge and deep pockets make her an ideal customer in Dash's eyes. He can easily spend an afternoon talking to her, and frequently has.FLUORSPAR is head of the Merchant Union, which means they see each other at least once a month. The most clairvoyant thing Dash ever did in his life was read tea leaves to impress someone he fancied; whatever Fluorspar does is just a bit too much for him personally. She seems aware of this, as she keeps her predictions to a minimum around him. BALEM honest-to-goodness special orders tea with actual gold flake in it, which is probably the most ostentatious blend Dash's ever had to put together -- and he's sewn more than a few extremely large and colourful tea flowers in his day. Balem occupies a unique portion of a diagram in Dash's mind, the two overlapping halves of which are labeled biggest spender and least-favourite customer. KLAXON is Dash's big brother, both physically and chronologically speaking. They never met as children; Klaxon left home well before Dash was even an egg. Dash didn't quite mean to follow him -- he knew, vaguely, that various cousins and children of his home town lived in the area -- but they got acquainted well enough shortly after Dash's Delights took off. Outside of a few things -- fashion, for instance -- they have few base interests in common, but they've made it work by inventing hobbies to share together, when they've got the time. If all else fails, there's always people-watching. |
