Gadjishk is a member of the Engake clan, but is currently being held in one of the Ice Flight's prisons for...taking what isn't his.

One could easily jump to the conclusion that he was unjustly convicted. "He's a Ridgeback; they have their borrowing system." Hmph. But his crimes were so heinous that even the Ridgeback societies label him as a uniquely depraved individual.

No, Gadjishk didn't periodically pilfer someone's tools or systematically steal from the clan treasury. He stole hatchlings - sometimes right out from under their parents' noses - and sold them in an underground auction house, making sure to place them with clans far away from their origins. He is unusally skilled in magic for a Ridgeback, and made good use of a number of illicit incantations to erase and modify portions of his victims' memories. (His customers were not aware of this, though. As far as they knew, the entire process was legitimate.) The hatchlings would remember their home clan and their parents, but there were fabricated memories placed in their heads, expertly woven into the real memories. His victims were made to beleive their home clan and parents didn't want them and had decided to sell them. Many times he made these memories painful, as to make it easier to sever whatever bonds those hatchlings had with their families. It was subsequently easier for the "adopting" parents to bond with the hatchling.

His scheme continued for years, with countless heartbroken parents from clans across the Windswept Plateau confused and frustrated over the abuctions. Every investigation met a dead end. Even the best of Nature's trackers and Light's sleuths were at a loss as to where the hatchlings had disappeared to. Some chalked it up to the beastclans, citing growing tensions as a motive for the kidnapping and/or murder of hatchlings. Others said they were picked off by predators. Wind territory is home to many creatures that could feed on small dragons, so the idea wasn't too great of a stretch. But they were missing one key piece of evidence to support either of these theories: there were no signs of any struggles. No blood, no clumps of fur or broken scales, nothing. It was as if they had just vanished.

Even the clan's most olfactively gifted Tundras were unable to find any scent trails that would indicate what happened.
