Marchosias

There's an aimlessness to Marchosias that he has well earned. The Order of the Colossus has been his home for so long that there are few left with living memory of his arrival in the clan, and no one doubts the service he has given. After what feels like eons, he has more than earned his place, and not a single dragon questions it.

He drifts through the Order on most days, battle-ready in garb, lackadaisical in manner, offering a hand wherever it is needed. Sometimes, this means minding the hatchlings while their parents get some fresh air (which comes with the added challenge of keeping them away from his prized cutlass). Other times, it means he helps Torbjorn with administrative matters, or matters of war. He's a jack of all trades by now, well-versed in a thousand tasks under the sun thanks to the many years set behind him, and his clanmates like to joke that there's not a single task beyond his ability at this point.

On the whole, he likes living this way, taking opportunities as they arise without being bound to any one responsibility, but he does miss the days long past, before he ever became a part of the Order of the Colossus. His cutlass is the only remnant of his days on the high seas, sailing with dragons far his superior in swordsmanship and other skills. Perhaps it was not the most savory pastime, if he's honest with himself. There's probably more than one flyer crumbling away in the dark that has a fading figure listed as the reward beneath his name. But it was a wild and free time when Marchosias was beholden to no one but his fellow crew, and the world was theirs to conquer.

Shantal knows about this, of course. He could not keep such a secret from his mate, especially not when that was how they first met. From the moment she first held a blade to his throat and threatened him and his ilk away from the Order, she occupied his mind, and despite the threat of death, he kept coming back to court her with the treasures he and his crew stole, with the stories he had to tell. She pretended to be unimpressed for a long time, of course, steadfast in her loyalty to her clan, but ultimately, Marchosias's cavalier spirit and adventurous exploits captured her heart as readily as she had captured his, and she found a way to introduce him to the clan without alerting Tobjorn to his previous occupation, or giving his crew reason to think he was anything but dead.

He regrets not keeping in touch with the crew, since in hindsight he believes they would have accepted that he'd settled down with his mate for life, but his decision to hide from them to stay with Shantal was always more important. He loves her dearly, and hopes to spend many more aimless ages at her side.
